Dick Cheney: Russian interference in US election may be ‘an act of war’

http://www.rawstory.com/2017/03/dick-cheney-russian-interference-in-us-election-may-be-an-act-of-war/

Cheney gave a speech Monday at Economic Times‘ Global Business Summit, where he discussed “the rising number of threats” facing the world, reported Business Insider.

The former vice president said some of those threats — and Russian President Vladimir Putin — threatened “globalization movements.”

“Not long ago, Gorbachev was in power and the Soviets went out of business … but the situation has changed dramatically under Putin,” he said. “I think he has designs on the Baltics … We know he wanted Crimea — he took it.”

“There’s no question that there was a very serious effort made by Mr. Putin and his government, his organization, to interfere in major ways with our basic fundamental democratic processes,” Cheney said. “In some quarters, that could be considered an act of war.”

So either you are on the side of the foreign enemy at war with us, Putin, or you are not.

Cheney has made that very clear here, it might give McCain and Graham and others the courage to do the same, let's hope.

Methinks Dick Cheney and his cronies (including the Kochs) are worried that Putin is planning on drinking their milkshake.
Best to get out in front of that...

different than ours in that it comes with a huge amount of self righteousness and "ends justify the means" thinking, but he may actually think there is a limit to party over country, unlike most republicans around today.

I think George Bush (not W) was patriotic or is, having served his country. Reagan was also, in his weird way. Maybe even W, i mean can you blame him for taking the champagne unit and avoiding war? (Dont get me wrong, W was the worst president of all time till now)

Sure Dick ran and hid when it was his turn, but most of his career he was steadfast patriotic in the way they are.

I actually expected this, eventually. I hope he doesn't make a liar out of me now and back down.

Does that mean Deadeye Dick is more of a patriot than Obama? After all, Obama declined to characterize the hack as an act of war. http://www.rollcall.com/news/politics/white-house-wont-call-russia-hacking-act-war

Personally, I'm not about to join those leaping to salute Cheney.

No way Obama could do that while president. not until ready to go to war and he clearly couldnt do that for obvious reasons.

This is such misdirection.

Obviously it is an act of war and the reasons Obama could not say that are also obvious.

the President can't say its an act of war?

How does that make sense?

And if the President doesn't say its an act of war, how in heavens name would any court find that it was?

Not following the logic here at all.

His patriotism - at least to this old Cold War sailor - always seemed to be linked to money and power.
So long as he was part of the leadership structure. He's always been a businessman who considers politics and governance part of his business toolkit. Cheney probably doesn't want world domination, he wants the privileges of being in directing and influencing the largest world Superpower.

His paraphrasing of JFK's famous one liner has always been -
"Ask not what you can do for your country, ask what your country can do for you..."

He won't back down because Russia is a Fascist competitor bent on dominating his geo-political business empire.
And in business, he has never backed down from a competitor.

The real question is how much is Trump indebted to Putin financially.

All of this talk of collusion sets aside the bigger question. Trump needs to show us all of his tax returns so we can see how much he's been bailed out by the Russians.

They can investigate his campaign's ties to the Russians after he's no longer president.

Once he has released his taxes and the press has had a chance to look it over, he's gone.

Now that we know he isn't competent to carry out the conservative agenda. They should be ready to get rid of him too. Those taxes aren't gonna cut themselves.

Is he not someone in those "quarters"? Who are those "some quarters" and what would be their motivation for labeling it as an act of war?

Seems like Dicky Boy's statement raises more questions than it answers. Which is why I for one am not rushing to praise him.
