Why don't Democrats change the narrative on regulations?

The cons say regulations are the problem and claim removing them helps the economy. The MSM goes along with this messaging. Why don't the Democrats call them protections and describe how they actually help the people and actually help the economy long term. Every time they say regulations, our people should say protections.

You act like water and air are the only regulations small businesses have to work with.

The thing is which ones are a deferent to success of small businesses and get rid of those. Democratic supporters have been saying there are too many regulations for a long time.

8. I don't agree there are too many at the Federal level.

And your message is what we always hear. What are these regulations specifically? There is nothing wrong with revisiting the regulations but wholesale elimination does far more damage than the regulations for the most part. That is the point of my post, too many Democrats accept this messaging without countering that many of these regulations are for the protection of the people.

I could easily pretend to own one of a handful of businesses that are heavily regulated and then list the regs, so any response we get is meaningless.

Nobody likes to deal with regulations or paperwork like something as common as building permits to add a room to a house, but it is what it is and they exist for a reason.

10. it depends on which regulations you're talking about...

several regulations are set up to create government mandated monopolies for companies with the legal expertise to maneuver through them. This is much different than regulation that are necessary for consumer and environmental protection.

6. The Cesar Milan rule for dogs as applied to business

Just as dogs need "rules, boundaries and limitations" so do businesses. Just as you don't want your neighbor's dog doing its business in your yard, so too do you not want businesses dumping dangerous stuff on the ground, in the ground, into the water or into the air.

Much like children, businesses also want rules on what they can or cannot do. It allows them to operate with clarity and on an even basis with each other.

Few (any?) Americans grew up during a period of time where protections were minimal/non-existent and generally take them for granted. Unless personally affected by Republicans changing/eliminating regulations, most people don't seem to make the connection about what protections do for everybody. We ought to be paying more attention to the status of REINS act currently in Congress, which would allow a hostile Congress to effectively hobble regulatory agencies from implementing almost any kind of protection .

16. The issue is it is hard to put a dollar figure on clean water, soil and air.
Mon Mar 27, 2017, 05:45 PM

It is easy to put a dollar figure on a scrubber that removed pollutants from effluent, be it liquid or gas. The Democrats can make only an argument based upon past setbacks when adequate regulations did not exist, Democrats make that argument to people, many of whom, don't remember badly polluted water and superfund sites like Love Canal. Also, Democrats are always weighed down be the Susan Sarandon type far left, who screams Democrats aren't doing enough regardless of the effort. Unfortunately, people will have to suffer the brute force of the problems Trump is making possible before they appreciate what Democrats were trying to save the country from. I, for one, would have been not upset if Trumpcare had passed because many people literally have to be hit in the face by a hammer before they smarten up, Trumpcare would have been that hammer for Trump voters and third party voters and non voters.
