DNC chair Tom Perez requests resignation letters from all staffers working for partyPerez, who beat out Minnesota congressman Keith Ellison to lead the beleaguered national organization last month, formally requested the resignation letter of all current staffers to be submitted by April 15, NBC News reported.
Political parties typically see top-to-bottom turnover when a new boss comes in, so the move wasnt entirely unexpected, sources told the network.
The makeover will nevertheless mark yet another period of tumult for the national party, which, throughout the 2016 election was rocked by scandal and plagued by leaks exposing divisions between its left-leaning and center-leaning wings.

Go, Tom and Keith. Do what need to be done what happened in 2016 NEVER SHOULD OCCUR, AGAIN!

(20 posts)The outliers that attempted to cause division in the party need to go.
I'm sure Keith and Tom are sick and tired of the nonsense from people who won't even commit to the party. You know, the same ones that want to throw Donna and Debbie under the bus because of some irrationally perceived slight.
Keith, Tom, Debbie and Donna are all allies. Not only that, they are friends.
Democrats are stronger together.

(7,006 posts)Debbie and Donna were the problems. Again, we cannot have what occurred in 2016 EVER HAPPEN AGAIN. If Tom and Keith are working to make sure that happens, great!
Also, welcome to DU and remember, we are trying to move on from what happened in 2016.

(20 posts)ever happen again.
The fact that there were factions amongst our group that gave us trump, is completely unforgivable.
How crazy was it, that some people didn't see the difference? It was completely absurd.
Thankfully, Tom, Keith, Donna and Debbie recognize this, and I'm certain they will never let this happen again.
They have all shown such strength in fighting against the factions that are trying to destroy our party.
Love them all.
Thank you for the welcome. I'm looking forward to working with a community that is dedicated to stop the nonsense that happened in 2016. People who aren't Democrats should not be dictating the direction of our party. On that, we agree.

(7,006 posts)Will have nothing to do with Tom and Keith's DNC. And that is good.
Still posting huh....Being 7 posts into D.U. and all about who's a Democrat and who is not. Interesting, for you to be the sole determiner of that. Very interesting....

(20 posts)I thought that Keith Ellison and Debbie Wasserman Schultz attending Trump's address together, showed a strong sign of solidarity.
And why wouldn't I be posting? This is a site for Democrats, no?

(10,500 posts)Bernie Sanders was in no way, shape or form robbed of the nomination. He was not treated unfairly by the DNC. He had every opportunity to win. He did not face obstacles, created by the party, that previous nominees did not face. The claim that he did is pure fiction.
Debbie and Donna have not been banned from the party or party events. Obviously they no longer have a place at the DNC since they no longer work there. But they are not less welcome than other previous party chairs, who also no longer have a place there.

(20 posts)That just seems crazy, in my opinion.
I didn't expect to see that view expressed here.
So there are people here who believe the primaries were slanted towards Hillary? Do you just completely disregard the millions who voted for her?
It's a known fact that Hillary Clinton won the primary in April. It wasn't even a close contest.
I don't see how Debbie Wasserman Schultz plays into this. In my recollection, she bent over backwards to be fair to Bernie Sanders, Martin O'Malley, Jim Webb, Lawrence Lessig and Lincoln Chafee.
But the majority of the Democratic Party wanted Hillary.
Hillary was our only realistic shot at keeping the White House.

(8,171 posts)not. I agree with Reid and the DNC's current direction which is a full time leader.
However Reid's statement about the DNC's ineffectiveness has no relation to ridiculous "primary was rigged" claims.

(20 posts)is frustrated that we haven't been strong enough at state and local levels. I know he was particularly irked about Alan Grayson interfering with our chance to take Marko Rubio's seat.
He's right. It needs to be a full time job.

(80,708 posts)He was pretty specific.
Actually, in my experience, "most of us" are more frustrated with stuff like national-level spokespeople who needlessly damage our brand in an election year by doing things like going to the times and condescending to millennials, or defending the drug war and mass incarceration of marijuana users when a clear majority of Americans support legalization.

"Earlier this month, Perez held a meeting to discuss the issue with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Sanders, both of whom supported Ellison in the DNC chair race, along with Ellison, Sanders aides Jeff Weaver and Larry Cohen, and others.
Schumer, pointing to Ellison and Sanders, told Perez, "If he's happy, and if he's happy, then I'm happy," according to two sources."

(368 posts)We need to redirect funds toward state parties instead of worrying about an exclusive group of consultants getting their contracts and becoming rich off of providing crappy services. Time for the rubber to meet the road.
NurseJackie
(42,862 posts)... that would allow the funds to be directed toward candidates and races that are the most competitive (and which stand a good chance of capturing a position previously held by a Republican), or directed toward races that are most threatened by a Republican challenger (but which are still entirely winnable)?
Others who have expressed "concerns" similar to yours often bemoan that losing candidates feel "abandoned". It would be nice if the DNC could send money to every candidate who has absolutely no chance of winning... but using precious funds for "moral support" or to prop-up a candidate who's in a hopeless situation really isn't the smartest decision, is it?
And then there are those who feel "abandoned" because the shoe-in Democrat didn't receive any money from the DNC. Again... why bother? If the candidate was going to win anyway, the party's money would be more wisely invested elsewhere, right?
In any case... it's certainly an exciting time for the Democratic Party. Many good things are ahead.

(57,349 posts)Harry Reid was absolutely right - it should be obvious to everyone there needs to be a shake up at the DNC and even though this isn't entirely unexpected the fact that they're cleaning house is still a damned good sign. I don't agree with folks who think everything has been going swimmingly well. One definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
