(2,522 posts)What will Rupert do? Will he continue to support President Trump, or will he protect the value of his ownership in the Republican Party? Paul Ryan just found out what it is like when Fox turns on him. I doubt that Resident Trump would handle the change well.

(396 posts)Only way I see him dropping into the high 20's is if the ACA is gutted. People are realizing they should've never voted for him. This Russia cover-up isn't helping either.

(58,785 posts)Maybe losing a lot of their excited glow, but they are deluged with and swallowing all kinds of lies to excuse and explain away most everything. A week ago poll averages put their approval at 85.2%. It may be lower, but something will happen to make them happy again.
ITM, RW media are full of social outrage-against-liberal-atrocities stories, but almost no mention of, for instance, Rump and Russia. Here're samples of the little:

(5,730 posts)but he still has a huge number of closet supporters, as well as the rabid base of ignorant racists, who don't actually get much fact based news. ..and that's just the way they want it.

(58,785 posts)is their great strength. Unity in pursuit of defeating Democrats, no matter what.
As you say, just as they want it. Most, of course, do believe that there is some occult, universal, for some god-given, truth that they are in compliance with. No need to define it. It is theirs.

Others, different types, don't care because the market is going up. If they see DT making them money, they love him. They will unlove him if they are losing too. Not everyone in finance feels like that. Some hate him, see how crazy he is, and wonder if it will all come crashing down. So far, if DT just says tax cuts or Deregulation, it rallies. Paul Ryan blows DT a kiss and it rallies.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)news is financial for obvious reasons. WSJ editorial pages may routinely wander around bat-shit territory, but not the financial pages.

and that was after all the Watergate shit hit the fan and he was close to impeachment. I figure that Trump will probably bottom out at about 30% unless a really big smoking gun (probably a Kalashnikov) is found, which will sink him to Nixon's level. There will always be that percentage of true believers who will never believe anything bad about him. I had a few elderly relatives who, even after the Watergate hearings, the release of all the tapes, and his resignation, continued to believe Nixon had been framed.

(58,785 posts)when his most zealous supporters realized he wasn't going to perform some kind of miracle to prove them right all along.
Boy, were they made--at HIM! And obviously they never learned anything at all. I no longer think they have a bottom to hit.

(369 posts)between high disapproval percentage and low approval percentage--24 percent. I've often thought that if it should get to a 30 percent gap--look out!

If this situation can't be unfucked soon, within the next few weeks, Dump will be free to dismantle the whole legal apparatus and declare himself King. This is fucking serious. We are in the middle of a coup.

(5,734 posts)Expect some surprising help from the Koch's. I am sure some of the Russian oligarchs can buy and sell them, and the Koch's will not be willing to give up power and influence.

I'm figuring 25% is the floor, that is what W got to in 2008.

(47,953 posts)They believe their 'god emperor' and not the 'lying fake lamestream news'. I don't know how bad things will have to get to reach them. Maybe if we go into a depression. But W was pretty much a complete failure by 2008, with a crashing economy, and he still got 25%.
Stinky The Clown
(67,800 posts). . . . putting policies in place that will directly hurt those at the low end of the socioeconomic ladder. W didn't do that directly. When 45/140 get gramma's medicaid cut, they will leave him in droves. Some see the writing on the wall already and have left.
I really think the Deplorables about whom HRC spoke are just a fraction of those who voted for him. His floor was high in advance of the election because HRC and BHO hatred was rampant. Without them as foils, lots of his former floor are simply left with him. And they find that, in the cold, clear light of day unacceptable.
I think his real floor is south of 20%

(19,066 posts)Remember when Trump and company tweeted up storms when Obama was mired in the low to mid 40s for a while there?
Trump's die hards may never leave him, but I think those die hards are smaller in number than people think, the majority of his voters got duped.
So he got about 47% of the vote, if half of those are his die hard Deplorables that would be about 23.5% as his floor, but I bet even 10% pf the deplorables may defect too. His floow then drops to around 20%.

(3,282 posts)He still wants to run for president. I'll bet he had fun running for president, and he's having no fun running the country.
He wants to just run for president non-stop all the time, which is why everything he's done in office looks an awful lot like his election campaign. Still attacking Obama and Clinton, still complaining about how his coverage is SO UNFAIR!
Perpetual election mode.
Y'know, for elections lasting longer than 2 years, consult your doctor.

(15,805 posts)Trump only wants to be the president of his most loyal supporters. He's a a fat figurehead in an outdated pompadour coif, tarted up in fine clothing, just so he can pose regally for the camera, greeting his adoring fans, while making outrageously sophomoric pronouncements to bolster his questionable manliness.
As the net tightens around him, he's going to become even less presidential and more the dangerous, buffoonish fool.

(11,563 posts)I believe they are. In fact, I can't believe there is anything other than genuine lunatic fringe still supporting him - like 5-10% - but no accounting for gullibility, partisanship and an inability to admit an error.
OTOH, they *could* be as bad as 32/62, which are catastrophic numbers, at this point in an administration.
Or maladministration, as the case may be.

(6,974 posts)It's more likely that he'll plunge this nation into a war unfortunately. thuglicans really want to keep him in the presidency so THEY can 'deconstruct' this country, and putin who probably has the goods on the GOP as well will probably be making sure that they "stay" in line, so our Congress is complicit in this cover-up. Our ONLY hope is the Senate to at least try to get to the bottom of this russian/tRumputin collusion via open hearings.
A war will take the focus off of russia and any other horrible thing he's guilty of unless something happens any day now, and Nunes is slow-walking Congressional investigations/hearings into tRumputin, Flynn, russian collusion.
