Sean Spicer said that everyone has agreed that there's nothing to investigate, and Rep. Nunes said there are no witnesses to call. How can the Senate Intelligence Committee possibly be looking into this without any witnesses or evidence, and why hasn't one of the Senators on the Committee scampered over to the White House grounds to let someone (we don't know who) know what's going on?

The House committee has served its purpose, with Mr. Comey making public that they are engaged in a counterintelligence investigation that includes the Trump campaign. But the Senate committee is definitely where the real work will be accomplished.

Just getting the real stars in the Senate excited so that they could stay on point.

I believe that the Senate is up to the job and will keep hard at it.

But this isn't the first time that republicans in the House have attempted to abuse their office to obstruct the system. I was thinking last night about this, after reading someone noting that republicans were better back in the Watergate era. That was really only true towards the end. If, for example, we consider the House Judiciary Committee's 7-29-1974 evening hearing on the proposed articles of impeachment, lots of republicans were supporting Nixon. The most obnoxious was NJ Rep. Sandman.

However, other republicans knew this was risky. The RNC head was Bush the Elder, who warned his fellow party members that the nation's eyes would "be on New Jersey." Bush went so far as to meet privately with Sandman, who would quietly change his stance on impeachment. But the republican party paid a price for Sandman's toxicity.

(I should note that Sandman, a former amateur boxer, had been a WW2 POW. Thus, though he was a flaming asshole, I gave him more credit than I do this new breed of slime, such as Nunes.)

There will be all kinds of odd fellows wander through the tapestry before the curtain is drawn.

Carter Page is a good candidate and most hilarious idiot but I expect to hear from a few bartenders, a group of Russian sex workers and an OCD bookkeeper who kept elaborate details on Manafort's books and sent a copy to his brother in law who hid it in his Butterfly Conservatory.

The only thing that counts at this point is that Burr and Warner stay on the same page. Burr's father was a minister and Burr is active in the progressive and tolerant Methodist Church. He has an independent streak being the only Southern Republican Senator to vote for the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell".

It would be a great irony that the seat that John Edwards gave up to run for VP was filled by a descendent of Aaron Burr who stood up and did the right thing. The survival of Republics require unexpected good fortune from unexpected quarters.
