I know Louise Mensch is thought of in various ways. She is not always right. But she HAS been at times, and so her latest is worth reading, hot off her blog. (If you are an affirmed Mensch hater, please just skip - there are better places to spend your time. Seriously.) If you want to consider her research/ideas, here goes:
A Russian spy stole the Facebook data of hundreds of millions of Americans
From that data, Russia crafted propaganda messages via SCL and targeted them by Cambridge Analytica
Both of these were owned by Alfa Bank and Firtash, Russian agent and boss of Manafort;
In order to perfect the social media targeting Russia hacked the electoral voter databases of various key American states:
This information was fed back to Manafort and Cambridge Analytica / SCL via the means of the bank server in Trump Tower;
Manafort and Trump used terrifyingly accurate micro-targeting obtained firstly by Facebook theft but secondly by Russia obtaining the exact demographic profiles of voters through hacks of US state databases and passing it back to Cambridge Analytica.
This theory, if true, would directly connect the Russian state with the Trump campaign and mean that Trump colluded with Russian spies who were hacking America. He will be impeached for it.
This is just the summary. She has full explanation plus sources if you want to understand the full linkage from her perspective. Some of the relationships seem too close and long-standing to be coincidental, as we've discovered with much in the Russian investigation so far.
There has been evidence in other sources today that this micro-targeting was used selectively in just a few key states to swing the vote to Trump, even though it was not obvious to the naked eye/traditional polls that this approach would work.
If what she says is basically true, this was a very sophisticated, direct attempt, not only to interfere in US Democracy, but to directly affect the Presidential race.
I've written about this before as PSYCHIC WARFARE by Putin on Americans.
And so it comes to a fundamental point ... either we believe in democracy, or we don't. Political nonsense aside, if her basic research/conjecture eventually proves true, then those who at that point still try to defend Trump and the Republican path ARE traitors.
You either choose to ASSIST, or RESIST, the Russian incursion into American Democracy ....

Mercers had been using Cambridge Analytica when supporting Cruz....
Once the Mercers climbed aboard the trump train
Jared had his Digital Marketing buddy & long time family friend take over the digital campaign... and bring 10 Cambridge Analytica "scientists" into his staff of roughly 65-70 employees at the company headquarters in San Antonio.
This facilitated the final weaponizing of the data and its strategically targeted deployment.

Jared's little operation is still going on today...
In the United States, the companys (SCL/Cambridge Analytica) efforts to win new government contracts are being led by Josh Weerasinghe, a former vice president of global market development at defense giant BAE Systems who previously worked with Flynn at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence as a senior advisor for the Committee on Homeland Security.
Flynn, in turn, served as an adviser to SCL/CA on its efforts to expand its contracting work, according to two people familiar with his role.

Michal Kosinski was a student in Warsaw when his life took a new direction in 2008. He was accepted by Cambridge University to do his PhD at the Psychometrics Centre, one of the oldest institutions of this kind worldwide. Kosinski joined fellow student David Stillwell (now a lecturer at Judge Business School at the University of Cambridge) about a year after Stillwell had launched a little Facebook application in the days when the platform had not yet become the behemoth it is today. Their MyPersonality app enabled users to fill out different psychometric questionnaires, including a handful of psychological questions from the Big Five personality questionnaire ("I panic easily," "I contradict others" . Based on the evaluation, users received a "personality profile"individual Big Five valuesand could opt-in to share their Facebook profile data with the researchers?
Kosinski had expected a few dozen college friends to fill in the questionnaire, but before long, hundreds, thousands, then millions of people had revealed their innermost convictions. Suddenly, the two doctoral candidates owned the largest dataset combining psychometric scores with Facebook profiles ever to be collected.
The approach that Kosinski and his colleagues developed over the next few years was actually quite simple. First, they provided test subjects with a questionnaire in the form of an online quiz. From their responses, the psychologists calculated the personal Big Five values of respondents. Kosinski's team then compared the results with all sorts of other online data from the subjects: what they "liked," shared or posted on Facebook, or what gender, age, place of residence they specified, for example. This enabled the researchers to connect the dots and make correlations.
Remarkably reliable deductions could be drawn from simple online actions. For example, men who "liked" the cosmetics brand MAC were slightly more likely to be gay; one of the best indicators for heterosexuality was "liking" Wu-Tang Clan. Followers of Lady Gaga were most probably extroverts, while those who "liked" philosophy tended to be introverts. While each piece of such information is too weak to produce a reliable prediction, when tens, hundreds, or thousands of individual data points are combined, the resulting predictions become really accurate.

(7,981 posts)The story starts with this Louise Mensch story. For those who dont know, Mensch is a former Tory Member of Parliament turned American rock promoter wife. Since quitting Parliament to spend more time with her family, she has become a pundit known for taking reasonable observations, injecting just a bit of whack, and turning them into fairly unhinged theories. Perhaps her best known foray into investigative work is when she unknowingly used her own racist search history to impugn a Jeremy Corbyn supporter. In spite of her still apparent tolerance for racism, she offered up her support to Hillary on Valentines Day in 2016. Of late, she has been writing unified theories of Russian spying that start from real nuggets and important observations, then spin loose from the actual supporting evidence.

(837 posts)- Louise has a "history." Fine.
- She has theorized some interesting connections.
- The pieces seem to clearly exist.
- Take these back out to the real world as a possible pattern to compare new data/theories/findings against.
- See if her theorizing helps you put some additional pieces together in a big ugly complicated web that NOBODY, has, as of yet, connected all the dots on.
The eventual answer could be YES, NO, MAYBE ...

(19,957 posts)How did he hook up with Donald Trump?
That's even more complicated. There are some clues in the speech Mr Thiel gave to the Republican Convention earlier this year. In that, he said neither he nor Donald Trump were politicians but they were both "builders" and wanted to use those skills to rebuild a "broken" America.
That speech pointed out that a lot of the money made in America over the past few decades had gone to relatively few people. The majority had seen no benefits from that wealth.
Few people were being honest about America's problems, said Mr Thiel.
But, as others have pointed out, while Mr Thiel may have put his finger on some of the issues facing America, it is not clear why he thought Donald Trump would be able to solve them.
Does his involvement with the Trump presidency end with this meeting?
No. Mr Thiel is believed to have become a key member of the Trump transition team. In addition, employees from Mr Thiel's venture capital fund and staff at some of the firms he founded have also been seconded to work with Mr Trump.
It is not clear what policy areas Mr Thiel and others will be advising on though it is likely to concern regulatory matters and industrial policy. As a man who has a "talent for making big, contrarian bets" it will be interesting to see how this one plays out.

https://theintercept.com/2017/03/30/facebook-failed-to-protect-30-million-users-from-having-their-data-harvested-by-trump-campaign-affiliate/
2) why would a legal anaylatical company, in San Antonio, that does data collection/analysis need a server in Trump Tower for sending info to and from anyone? Gotta figure they would have at least a few of their own.
Hmmm. Did CA have a 'base of operations' in Trump Tower?
3) why would Manafort be getting such information? What the heck would he do with it, especially since they are paying CA millions already?
CA says they already have info on 220 million Americans, and its no secret ( its on their "about" page).
4) the russia hacking voter databases is interesting, but it is no secret THEY were doing physcological cyber-stuff. Figuring such data would make it more effective makes sense, but why does that implicate trump and Manafort?
stone was already a proponent of such activities (at least when legal), but Manafort didn't put much stock in it ( he resisted Kushner's advancment of the cyber stuff).
"Roger Stone, a longtime Trump adviser, has written in his own campaign memoir about geo-targeting cities to deliver a debunked claim that Bill Clinton had fathered a child out of wedlock, and narrowing down the audience based on preferences in music, age range, black culture, and other urban interests."
Manafort and Kushner butting heads...
http://www.nationalreview.com/article/438739/trump-campaigns-data-firm-partner-cambridge-analytica-worked-cruz
"Inside Trump Tower, the decision to work with the data-targeting firm was fraught with controversy, according to a Trump aide familiar with the campaigns internal conversations. After the Trump team, under pressure from the Republican National Committee and others to ramp up its ground game and voter-targeting operation, met with Cambridge Analytica officials in late June, campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner were at loggerheads: While Kushner wanted to bring the company aboard, Manafort opposed the move."
