When I was a layout editor with the weekly college newspaper, The Megaphone, there was the tradition of producing an entire satire edition on April Fool's Day called The Megaphool. In 1983, toward the height of popularity of Boy George, the entire front page included a picture of the new president (Roy Shilling) with a hat and long locks, then calling him Boy Roy a reference to him being a charmelion on some of the contradictory policies from the administration.

I don't think that the administration really liked any of us after that stunt.

Their "joke" is 100% believable. It does not even verge on the realm of satire, like an Onion article.

The problem with Republicans, and Russians who pretend to be Democrats is...

they lack introspection and the sense of humor to realize how to craft humor.

женился на казначее Хиллари----"married to the treasurer Hillary."

Sure.

I don't know what was meant by that, but it sounds like someone put some kind of English phrase into a translation site, had no idea whether the Russian translation was accurate or not (I suspect not) and then re-posted it.

Either the people at that site are a little desperate for entertainment, or someone "helped them out."

I guess whether or not some idiot meant it seriously, or it was put up there by some hacker will be determined soon enough--just check to see if it's still there in a few hours. If it's not taken down, poor them. From what I've seen and heard about that site, though, it just doesn't seem right. Why would they post in Russian, and then post something close to gibberish?

And NO ONE in Russia uses "товарищи ("comrades&quot any more except when making a joke.

Those were emotional days.
In fact, a rule they had early on was NOT to post bad things about DU.
But as time went on, the posts started reading more and more right wing, and then I started seeing pro Putin posts.
I figured they were having a tough time with keeping the trolls out. It was strange, so I never went back.

and wager there are probably still a lot of good people and a lot of interesting discussion there. I ended up staying away from DU and never getting very involved at JPR. I find I do not mind at all being where people disagree or think in real different ways than I do because I always learn things. Still, I have not gone back even to read. DU has always been my home but I don't spend much time here either except to read. People here cannot seem to be comfortable with thinking outside the mainstream Dem thoughts. Sadly that limits us but it is a great place to get news and I do still have some old friends here.

DU seems to embrace realistic and pragmatic solutions most (but not all) of the time. People want solutions and they want them implemented.

JPR often seems like fantasy land to me. They are so anti-free trade over there that is has blinded them to the true reality of things: (1) that automation and innovation is by far the #1 reason for decreased manufacturing jobs, not bad trade deals and (2) there is an ever widening gap between the skills employers want from their employees and the skills those potential employees actually possess. The days of supporting a family with a manufacturing job and a high school diploma or long gone.
