and she won't admit it but it's cause he's black. I want to convince her that Democrats will help keep her Social Security.

9. Babs, once you know it's racism

just save yourself the headache. It's an irrational bias, and it cannot be cured by rational thought.

Obama could personally and directly save her life, and she might come around. Then again, she might not. She doesn't want to like him. She fears him, and want's to justify the fear.

You can change racism when folks are young, but much less often when they get older than me (because you're really not "old" unless you're older than me).

How good a friend is she? If very good, ask her if she trusts you. If she does, then tell her to trust you on this, because to do otherwise it puts your friendship at risk. If she doesn't change her ways, she might at least STFU...

Good luck.

2. With the little information you've given us, tell her she's dumb

You haven't told us why she hates him. Is she racist? Is she far right, and hates all government, but especially Democrats? Is she, in fact, dumb?

Pull the trigger?

Generally I don't have the heart to go after people like that. I just make more compassionate arguments like how poor people need to be helped. I point out how everyone comes together during disasters (such as the recent fire here) and how no matter their ideology, they help one another. I ask why can't they do the same with health care?

5. I don't have any ammo for you, but your friend

reminds me of a friend of my mom. Her friend is on Social Security, Medicaid, food stamps, and lives in government subsidized housing and absolutely hates the President and anyone who is a democrat. I refuse to argue with her because it's like talking to a wall.

8. Wait and see what Romney, Ryan, etc., will try to do with her disability and Soc Security Benefits.

To them, she is just another worthless person sucking "entitlement" money from the rest of the callous, bigoted, ignorant right wingers. She better stick with Obama this election.

10. If she is a friend like you say
Sun Jul 1, 2012, 03:57 PM

then why does she have to STFU, maybe she thinks you should STFU. If she is on disability and SS it sounds like she has some serious health issues, you have to take that into consideration when dealing with people.Instead of taking the party line of love Obama or die maybe you should spend some time talking to her about things.
Why does she hate the President? does she hate all black people, why? Discuss party ideology and how Republicans feel about disability payments vs how democrats feel about the same subject. You may not be able to just rush in and convert her, she may be carrying a lot of physical and emotional baggage due to her illness. If she is really your friend and you care about her then you should have no problem investing some time in her.

The facts for you to use are out there on the internet, how you present them is up to you and will determine whether or nor you get to keep a friend. Just be nice and go slow. Be willing to discuss her point of view. Use a kind heart, the truth and facts to persuade her. I have no doubt you will be successful in the end.

They think she should just get a job or get help from family. Why would she want to vote for someone who wants her to have to do that?
