Its easy to dismiss Donald Trump as the worthless piece of shit we see every day ad nauseam but, to deal with him, we must acknowledge his real value. I am not speaking of his net worth which may be little or nothing once his considerable debt is subtracted from his nominal assets. Before the Trump malady can be remedied we must recognize that he represents significant value to many people who wont be happy with his political demise.
First and foremost he is Vladimir Putins most valuable weapons system, bought on the cheap, fueled and maintained by the American taxpayers. Putin has weaponized the White House and is deploying it against the American people and all of his international adversaries. The Trump weapon is already doing great harm, more harm than Russias aging military arsenal did in many decades. Trump is valuable to Putin as long as he is in office but Putin carefully protected his investment. He made sure that the West Wing was fully and exclusively populated with his minions and that the presidential line of succession provided vital redundancy to his villainous device.
Trump quickly demonstrated his value to the worlds wealthiest and most powerful. Once in office, he began a systematic upgrade of the governments ability to transfer wealth upward from the majority of Americans to an entitled few at the top. His league of billionaire cabinet members is a reassuring sign to his wealthy admirers that their dues to the Trump club is money well spent. In retrospect, George W. Bushs salute to the haves and have mores seems almost cute in comparison. By limiting his inner circle to American plutocrats, Trump has allayed any fears that he was actually going to work for average Americans, even the gullible schmucks in red hats who voted for him.
One of Trumps greatest values cannot be quantified in dollars or rubles. That is the new life he has breathed into Americas darkest side, white nationalists. He exhorted them to crawl out from under their rocks and stand tall beside him. He leveraged that hateful minority to achieve power over all. He is careful not to offend them since they are the most solid foundation of his base and will stick with him no matter what disgusting things are revealed about their champion. As long as he keeps winking and nodding to the KKK and the neo-Nazis who support him, he is more gold than orange.
The part of corporate America that measures its wealth in unextracted fossil fuels found real gold in Donald Trump. Trumps value to them is the forestalling of the end of their dominance at the expense of the planet and the health of its occupants. His cavalier trashing of common sense environmental regulations lines the pockets of the dirty sector of the energy economy at the expense of new clean energy technologies. The United States will go to the back of the line in energy innovation and may never catch up.
The financial sector believed that after they had been caught plundering the middle class, they would never get another shot at fleecing America. They paid a small price and their patience was rewarded by the election of the fraud who tarred and feathered Hillary Clinton for her tenuous connections to Goldman Sachs. President Trump has staffed his administration with a cadre of Goldman Sachs buccaneers that would have made candidate Trump blush. The value of financial securities surged as he assaulted the regulations that held their greed in check. Only the looming prospect of Trump leaving office in disgrace has dampened Wall Streets exuberance.
Defense spending is the most reliable vehicle for transferring wealth from the many to the few. It operates on a colossal scale and those who resist it will have their patriotism questioned. Trump is proposing a massive increase in our already obscene defense spending. He is shaming our allies to do likewise. Defense tycoons will pocket the cash and the stooges in red hats will applaud the show. Innocent civilians will die.
Dislodging Trump will not be easy given the many people who profit from his presidency. Every day we learn how malignant and metastasized the Trump cancer has grown. He may be Putins creation but far too many are willing to accept that for their own selfish purposes. Yes, Donald Trump is a very valuable commodity. We just cant afford him.

(20,873 posts)Check out what Ivanka tRump has to say about bankrupt daddy after divorcing Ivana tRump abt. 1995 or so.
At 44:30 she talks about how daddy is $8 billion in debt!
Where did tRump get the $8 billion he owed? Does anyone care? Why is this not addressed?

(28,151 posts)I agree with your assessment of the situation. I would add that with all the scandal swirling around and the subsequent proceedings and chaos even more value will be accrued, as it were. How can a country with a government in chaos even concern itself with international goings on? Putin is a smart and dangerous motherfucker.
Also, on the awakening of the underbelly of our society point; so right! And it was carefully cultivated into readiness for just such a moment by the decades long effort of right wing media efforts. Fox, Rush & Co have done their work well. And of course the right wing pols have certainly done their bit, let's not discount their efforts!
It all comes to fruition now.
