t.v. spots that they used during the campaign, and I live in a VERY red state, a state that he won by a large margin in November. I started noticing the ads a couple of weeks ago -- and I wondered then and now why the hell Trump is running campaign ads in a state he won when we are years away from another election involving Trump. The ads are not about Gorsuch or any supposed Trump plans; they are just plain old campaign ads featuring dudes in MAGA hats.
This seems bizarre to me. I hope it has to do with Trump's dismal approval ratings though why he thinks he needs to run ads in very red states (and this is a red state that has been reliably red for decades -- in no way a swing state) is certainly an interesting detail.

(6,916 posts)So far 85% support amongst Republicans. As long as that stays up GOP can push their agenda in congress supported by gerrymandered/extreme districts that don't need to worry about democratic voters at all.

(28,151 posts)Just propaganda stuff. Saving a few bucks by just running the same old shit they already had int he can. Shows as much effort and ofresight they put into everything. Idiots.

(6,916 posts)If their base weakens, GOP congressman start getting worried and calling for investigations.
Trump has already lost all Democrats and thinking Americans. GOP base is all that's left, and it's what backstops him in Congress. And the GOP base is right now all in on the president. Ads are meant to keep that up.

"Just days after President Trump and House Republicans failed to repeal Obamacare, Trump's supporters on Wednesday launched an advertising campaign to boost his agenda and target a key group of Democratic senators.
Making America Great, a new nonprofit aligned with Trump donor Rebekah Mercer, announced plans to air at least $1 million in television and digital ads. The commercials will run in the nation's capital and 10 states that Trump won last November: Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Dakota, Florida, Missouri, Indiana and Montana. Democratic senators face re-election next year in all 10 states."....(More at link)

Read 'Dark Money' by Jane Mayer for the full story on these ghouls. Wastes of skin who are sociopaths.

(6,251 posts)is not a whole lot of ads.

(5,611 posts)so I don't think they are that expensive to run (for example the ads show up on the Fox News channel in the afternoon -- this can't be that expensive so the idea that a rabid pro-Trump cpac is behind these ads makes total sense to me)

(5,611 posts)This makes a lot of sense, and thank you for posting the link. The ads are paid for by some super PAC, and given their weirdness (they are campaign ads right after the election) this context makes a lot of sense. Everything is so bizarre in Trumpland that the (relative) normalcy of a PAC running ads didn't even cross my mind!

(3,335 posts)he used during the campaign to furnish "supplies" and "services" in support of the Trump for President 2016 and bilked his stupid base while further lining the family coffers in support of Trump for President 2020. Remember he said that he would be the first to run for president and make money in the process. Well now he's about to become the FIRST to do it TWICE. He knows he's going to be impeached and will not finish out his first term, let alone win a second term; so a con man's gotta do what a con man's gotta do. My only solace in this whole thing is that the GOP party will pay the price when the naked emperor is finally exposed.
