The FBI and CIA are investigating Trump's ties to Putin I'd think they would obtain a warrent

for his tax returns.

I've heard it said plenty of times that everyone believes his tax returns hold the answer or really incriminating evidence and I would think they would want this information.

However is it possible that they have the information but won't let the information go public?

I know if they are investigating Russian collusion with Trump camp they would want to get a bunch of information about where the various players got their money

1. At some point they will probably subpoena the tax returns

but they have to have enough supporting evidence to justify a judge approving the subpoena. They are probably in the process of collecting that evidence, or else they already have it. They might even have the tax returns; they might have been produced under seal and can't be made public yet. There are a lot of procedures involved in this.

5. They would be under seal for sure and this potential evidence would be something

investigators would ask for automatically.

Serious crime/punishment to leak the returns, but serious demand to see them. Which will win out?

3. Trust me, the CIA knows much more than what's on his tax returns.

They just can't divulge it because it will tip off the Russians to our intelligence collection methods and equipment.

6. What exactly do we expect the tax returns to show regarding the election?

At best, they might show he earned or borrowed some money from sources in a lot of foreign countries. That might show potential conflicts, and provide fodder for more criticism of the buffoon, but it's unlikely to take Trump down. Might show things unrelated to Russia like he isn't that good a businessman.
