(182,826 posts)being the first woman after the first black POTUS was going to be even harder. It was probably the final 2% that turned it. The media was still a majority of the problem.

(60,015 posts)Do I think sexism plays a negative role in politics - and in life - in general? HELL YES.
Do I think that there is any way that messaging or campaigning or anything would have changed the outcome? Nope. Because the outcome is not legitimate - which overrules any other reasoning.

(28,945 posts)Of course there was sexism but it didn't impact this election any worse than previous elections. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/poll-shows-women-backed-obama-hillary-clinton-article-1.2866727

(960 posts)a female trucker who was a Trump supporter said something along the lines of "we're too emotional for a job like that" and then the interviewer responds with something like "do you face that kind of thinking in your line of work?", "yes", "and you like it?", and then she pauses.
Can someone find that video for me? I think they were at some rural fair type thing.

(42,641 posts)A choice between a well-qualified woman and a misogynistic rapist. And everyone who voted for the rapist knew in advance he was a rapist. So a vote for the rapist can only be seen as excusing and overlooking the rape and the brutal misogyny.
The rapist lost, but because of a relic of slavery the rapist was installed as President.
What was the question again?

(100,080 posts)And the hate that has come out of Trump supporters since has only proven that point.

(7,814 posts)Not only was Mrs. Clinton targeted by the media and some comment from the left, but Trump's obvious feelings of male superiority made him very attractive to those men and women who want to see women shut up and sit down. The most frequently quoted reason for Trump voters who trusted him was that he "told the truth." He did, indeed. He said that all other groups besides white men were criminal, or suspect, or untrustworthy in some way. Week after week he ranked women on their attractiveness alone, as though the sole reason for their existence was to titillate him. He spoke as though political correctness were the enemy of all clear thinking, and his followers ate it up. What all of this means is that for Mr. Trump and his ilk in the GOP, part of government's role is to control women, control African Americans, and Muslims and Hispanics, and control everyone who thinks we should treat each other equally. If slavery were still legal, I think he would own some, like the founding fathers, because of the natural superiority of the class he represents.
