Tina Fey Warns College-Educated Women Gains Weve MadeAre Under Attack

Tina Fey looks back at the November presidential election and realizes, as she puts it, that "a lot of this election was turned by white, college-educated women who now would like to forget about this election and go back to watching HGTV."

While some on social media pegged her comments made Friday night at the American Civil Liberties Union's Stand for Rights benefit in New York City as digs about the women who voted for Donald Trump, others saw them as more of a call to arms.

"I would want to urge them ... 'You can't look away' because it doesn't affect you this minute, but it's going to affect you eventually," Fey added. "Again, open two windows. Do watch HGTV, but [don't] turn our attention away from what is happening."

The remarks came during a conversation with New York Civil Liberties Union executive director Donna Lieberman and ACLU deputy legal director Louise Melling about women's reproductive rights during Friday's four-hour, star-studded Facebook Live fundraiser for the ACLU.

women thinking less of you for doing so.

Because, as a woman, I think you deserve ALL the pain you have chosen to inflict on the rest of us as women. It was your choice, not mine. You should be the only women that bear the consequences of anti-women laws. It's what you voted for - not me.

You ceased being any better than the men who would hold us down as property, demanding control over our lives and bodies, the very second you thought "Trump" was a good idea.

It was also a call to arms - if you now see what a mistake you've made then DO SOMETHING about it. Turn your happy feelings channels off and work to undo the damage you have caused to your fellow women. (and men, children, the planet, the world)

If you can safely hide behind your privilege, be it your skin hue or bank account, then fucking kudos for you, you selfish woman. A whole lot of us, black, white, brown, gay bi lesbian, trans and everything in-between (skin hue, gender relate & attraction) don't have that option.

But that doesn't make us any less than you - yet you still voted as if we didn't matter.

So, fuck you.

Fey was talking to all women, but especially those protected by wealth and status, who might want to forget the last election because they think Trump won't impact their lives.

They're wrong. As she stated. Trump will eventually come for them as well.

She is telling those voters to not tune out - but to remain tuned it. And active, or we lose the gains those before us fought, and died, to get for us.

Those voters could have voted either way in reality. I doubt all white college educated women voted for Trump for example, but too many did.

Some people, the article stated, took it as a dig on Trump voters - and I was rebounding off that line to state how I feel about women who did vote for Trump, to include those protected by their wealth and status.

I have a hard time believing so many college-educated white women voted for this asshat. I guess stranger things have happened...

Sometimes I think we women sabotage ourselves.

Apparently 'Cogito ergo sum' does not apply to many among us. Not all of us connect thinking to being.
