A Russian lawmaker was found dead after allegedly slipping and hitting his head

Russia's Investigative Committee has opened a probe into the death of Federation Council member Vadim Tyulpanov.

Tyulpanov died on April 4 in St. Petersburg. According to preliminary results, he slipped and fell at a fitness center, striking his head. He was already dead when help arrived.

Investigators were studying the scene of the incident.

Tyulpanov, 52, was the head of St. Petersburg's Legislative Assembly from 2003 until 2011. He then represented the city government in the Federation Council, the upper house of Russia's parliament.

Petr Polshikov, 56, a senior Russian diplomat, was shot to death in his Moscow home, according to Moscow newspaper Moskovskij Komsomolets. The paper said Polshikov's wife found him in their bedroom with a pillow over his head. Underneath the pillow, police found Polshikov with a head wound.

A spokesman from the Russian Foreign Ministry said Polshikov's death was likely an accident and had nothing to do with his official government duties

5. There is an easy test to find out whether it was accident or whether he was hit over the head.

You can draw a certain line on a skull, similar to where the rim of a hat would sit.
If the headwound sits below the line, it probably was incurred by falling down.
If the headwound is above that line, it cannot have been incurred by falling down.
