Please - they must understand that a 50 state strategy might turn the House in 2018. Grass roots means getting down in the grass.

(44,171 posts)And the "repeal and replace" fiasco was not good for the Republican congress people who supported it.
So happily, Trumpism is losing popularity.
Both Perez. and Ellison are great organizers, and they're liberal/progressive. I'm very excited about what they will do.

(4,492 posts)He seems to be a good candidate. Has statewide name ID from his music career, not a politician, and seems to have a lot of common sense.
Someone with ties to the state can correct me, but that's my outside POV

(4,492 posts)There's also a few progressive organizations (independent expenditures) that are putting boots on the ground in Montana.
Best way to help

(898 posts)Why bother running, or supporting a candidate when one can wrap oneself up comfortably in the blanket of defeatism.

(34,845 posts)Although I agree with a 50 state strategy and that such expenditures may reap benefits later down the road. I suppose it depends on how much money the DNC can afford to spend on long-shot candidates. I'm betting donations have been going up since the advent of Dolt45.

They also have Jon Tester in the US Senate.
Sure, they may not be Elizabeth Warren or Jeff Merkley, but if Tester votes with Democrats 80-90% of the time, it's a helluva lot better than some RW Tool in there that votes with Democrats 5-10% of the time, if that.
The right candidate can win in Montana

Party officials in the state put him forward with a vote of 90-69. They seem to be supporting him. Running as an outsider is also a huge part of his campaign. That is well known by all.
He has raised over 750,000 in just a couple of weeks and about a third of that is from outside of the state.
This is where the DNC needs to give directly to the state party in order to keep a space between Quist and themselves. I know it's more fun to yell at walls than to actually think these things through.
We also have considerable amount of wealthy donors giving to the state party in Montana.

And some solid PAC's, including an arm of the DNC, are funneling money into the state.

Same people complaining about this would be yelling at walls even more if the DNC tied themselves directly to him. "Don't they know he is a Montana outsider!!!! The DNC is trying to kill his campaign!!!!"

(86,765 posts)doesn't "get" Montanans. Articles like this one are why there's such a stereotyped image of western culture, especially in the 21st century.
Out here in Montana, it takes more than $$ to win a campaign, with such a small population the constituents want some face-time and Quist has the talent for that along with being a "real" Montanan. And he listens to what people say to him, his opponent acts like the elitist that he is. His opponent lost to the incumbent Democrat in his failed attempt at the Governor's race in November, we're already hip to the stink on his dung.
The fact that Quist went through the medical/financial issues makes him all the more "like us" to residents here. One thing I've heard is that people will vote for him because he's from here and that he's not a career politician... he's old school in their eyes.
He's got a really good chance, and I know of folks who have purposely registered to vote for this election when they didn't vote in November, and I don't see many signs for the opponent anywhere this time around.
We don't fit into the round or square hole...

Money is still always good. It seems to be flowing into his campaign just fine at this point. I think the Montana Democratic Party put the right person forward.

(86,765 posts)and Quist is a good choice. I went to his first rally up in town a few weeks ago. I not only was impressed with his message, I was impressed with who the audience was and that I am already acquainted with several attendees.
Even the red crowd around here is ready to swing to the other side for this election, Zinke was a burn and I think the price could be a Democrat in his place.
I'm glad Qusit is getting funding, I signed up to help, even after the election if he needs staff, I'm available.
