'People Just Flat Out Lie': NBC's Andrea Mitchell Rips Trump in Scathing Interview

by Joe DePaolo | 8:48 am, April 10th, 2017

Days after being called “Hillary Clinton’s PR person” by President Donald Trump, NBC News correspondent Andrea Mitchell fired back in a scathing new interview — in which she ripped the Trump administration for, among other things, lying and limiting media access.

Appearing on a podcast released by Politico Monday, the veteran NBC correspondent took the White House to task for what she deemed an unprecedented effort to deceive the public.

“I have never seen anything like this where people just flat out lie,” Mitchell said. “You know, black is white and white is black, and they mislead you. It’s really disconcerting to see the podium in the White House briefing room being used to mislead or misdirect or obfuscate.”

Mitchell referenced the upcoming trip to Moscow by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, on which journalists are not being permitted to accompany the nation’s top diplomat.

It's all well and good to complain that Trump is a liar, but that's hardly a surprise to anyone who's heard him speak for more than 2 seconds.

Mitchell should instead call out journalists for their utter failure to take Trump to task on any matter of significance. They don't call him on 99% of the bullshit he says, nor do they hold him accountable for his actions. Instead, they simply devote themselves to stenography and keep on their merry way.

This, after they were happy to give him a full year (and billions worth) of free campaign publicity.

Trump is an asshole, but everyone knows that he is an asshole. We kind of hoped for better from the journalists charged with reporting the truth, though.

Propublica and Mother Jones are nonprofits and better, but both are smaller.

NYT and WaPo are privately held and controlled by sane Americans. That matters.

WSJ and NY Post are controlled by a crazy right-winger.

CNN is public. And its parent CEO is a right winger. Also all broadcast for-profit media is more ratings craven than newspapers.

Seriously read the NYT piece. CNN promoted Trump to make money.

But the Times isn't privately held. Anyone with money can buy stock in the company. It is as much of a for profit enterprise as Coke or McDonalds.

NYT is effectively privately held. You can buy shares but they are class A shares with limited voting rights.

The Sulzbergers control the NYT because they control a majority of the class B shares with full voting rights.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_New_York_Times

Being family controlled matters a lot, I think. Despite the news dept problems at the NYT, e.g. about Hillary's emails and Iraq war cheerleading, the NYT is the US paper of record. We are lucky to have such a thoughtful paper of record.

Andrea has a lot of experience, so it's easy to understand her frustration. The Trump administration's practice of lying as a regular daily activity is inexcusable. Trump's hollowing out of the State Department, not regularly briefing reporters and not allowing them to travel with Tillerson is beyond anything nearing normal

Mitchell SHOULD be ticked off.

If journalists choose to report what people say without challenge, they are subject to exploitation.

One side (here the GOP) can exploit journalists who do this by blatantly lying. Then journalists repeat lies and amplify them, becoming part of the propaganda machine. Hence how our current president got elected.

The only way to fix this is for journalists to report the truth. To use their brains to identify what is true and what is false. And to resist exploitation by liars.

They aided and abetted the horrid GOP and she was happy to disrespect President Obama.

Now she might - or might not - appreciate the difference when you are dealing with a REAL president rather than a lying, corrupt jackass.

She and the rest of the MSM enablers made their bed and helped Trump get where he is. Now they can deal with him and his administration.

Andrea Mitchell: "Hillary Clinton's PR person?"

That would be the same Andrea Mitchell who obsessively shrieked about Hillary's emails throughout the entire campaign, while ignoring the genuine evils of trump's stances and actions? The Andrea Mitchell who earned the permanent scorn of Hillary supporters---myself very much included---for her tone-deaf, misdirected "reporting" during the months leading up to the election?

Unbelievable. And Andrea Mitchell: to hell with you, now and forever more.

Why did it take the news section of the GOP 17 years to learn what their opinion writers knew long ago?

It is gobsmacking that journalists in 2017 are just discovering - shocking! Unbelievable! - that the GOP's PR strategy is to lie and get the media to repeat lies.

Krugman's first "Flat Earth Journalism" piece was in 2000.

If only there was some way you could publicize those lies, make the White House pay at least a PR price for lying. But how??? How could you possibly get the word out in a timely fashion and tip off the public that the White House is saying that black is white and white is black? It's a stumper, all right.

Nevermind the way in which she reported on a series of nothing emails.
