Video shows cop pummeling alleged jaywalker; criminal investigation underway

A criminal investigation has been launched into the “disturbing” actions of a Sacramento police officer who was captured on video punching a man accused of jaywalking, authorities said.

The officer, whose name hasn’t been released, was placed on leave as authorities opened an administrative investigation into his actions.

On Tuesday, the Police Department released dash-cam video footage from the officer’s patrol cruiser showing the confrontation. (A witness’ cellphone video of the incident sparked public outrage when it was circulated on social media recently.)

“The actions of the involved Sacramento police officer are disturbing and do not appear to be reasonable based upon the circumstances,” the Police Department said in a statement. “The Sacramento Police Department holds itself to the highest professional standard and the actions that were observed are not indicative of the dedicated women and men who work for the Department.”

This hardly ever happens. I'm sure a paid vacation and an hour of sensitivity training will clear this up. 99.9999999 percent of all LEO's are pure as the driven snow.

AND YES HE WAS STOPPED FOR NOT CROSSING THE STREET PROPERLY YET WAS APPROACHED AND STOPPED AND BEATEN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET
“attempted to detain a pedestrian for allegedly unlawfully crossing the street."
IN THE video you can see how much harm crossing like that was not creating to traffic flow as the beating and arrest takes place in the middle of the street !!!

I could see obstructing traffic on a busy street or highway being a problem but please look at the video . No traffic issues not even while beating him in the street and detaining him in the street
Wtf watch the full video the woman captured and also the later interview with the victim

I live by a police station and jaywalk often and sometimes a car sees me but they never do nothing. Just quiet residential streets so crosswalks aren't a big deal and this never happens. The cops didn't bother with any questions and starts whaling on him.

He opened his jacket to show he didn't have a weapon . The police answer was to say get down on the ground now and when the jaywalker asked him why he'd have to do that, what's this about then the cop rushed him to the ground.
He said he did not fight getting punched because he was afraid guns would come out and he would be dead

9. The irony with that is carrying a gun is not enough PC to make a stop unless under a Terry Stop scen

Which jaywalking doesn't qualify because guns are legal unless it is an illegal gun but the cops were dead wrong from the beginning including the other cops watching him beat on him.

1) I'm glad cell phone footage was put out on social media. No clue where this would be without it.
2) The cop clearly felt the man didn't have a weapon. The officer was throwing punches, not immediately trying to restrain. It was a beat-down, not a stop.
3) Jaywalking while black is a serious issue. I was with someone last weekend who was staying down by the beach on vacation. They asked me if it was ok to jaywalk in that area(quickest way to get to the beach). I told them cross-walks were more safe but they looked like they were from the neighborhood so it won't be a problem with law enforcement. They knew exactly what I was saying.
4) There was no present threat here in any way. Beating the shit out of someone who poses no clear present threat.

This officer needs to be charged and should already be booked.
