Yes, I know I've got until Tuesday, but they're done and I want to get rid of them ASAP.

E filing? I can never locate the stupid PIN they issue every year, only the one for the year before they mistakenly send me before they send out the real one.

and was too out of it during January and forgot to send my 4th quarter estimate in. I still get something from the Feds and pay less than the estimate to the state. And my income was UP. I don't get it.

Living on dividends and interest is weird and the taxes are weirder.

you can have the custodian withhold your approximate tax (must be at least 10% of the RMD)and it's considered withholding, not estimated, and the one payment relieves you of the need to make estimated payments during the year. If you have an IRA. And you're old enough to have to take RMD's.

If I am correct, then you win! You got to use their money interest free for up to a year rather than having them use yours for free!

My perfect scenario is that I pay just under $100. Unfortunately I am too cheap to pay for a tax dude and end up getting around 1K back each year. And I am too lazy(dumb) to figure out how to jigger the numbers in my favor.

But after turning 59.5 and buying a (cheap) house with IRA cash, I was flummoxed with 1040-whatever.

and I bought a semi-winning lotto ticket

which put my ACA subsidies into parts unknown.

so I needed professional help.

Sometimes life give us things we just can't make up. I use a good computer program to do mine, but I am pretty sure it does not cover lotto tickets plus ACA and just buying a house after cashing in my IRA!

I hope your tax dude is good because that sounds like moving to brazil complicated to me!!

Good luck.

and divide $1000 by the # of your yearly paychecks. Ask for the resulting amount to be taken from each paycheck. There should be line for that. Why let tRump keep your money for up to 16 months?

Because I would need a note pad, a pencil with an eraser, a calculator and 3 hours to figure out what you just wrote!

Actually our taxes are easy-peasy. No kids to deduct, house paid for, investments all tax deferred and we are not yet drawing. Defined pension and company provided health care for both or us. Very little interest income as it all rolls back into the 401K's or Roth IRA's.

Took me 30 minutes with a pretty simple tax program.

Have a nice evening.

I've used one for some years now. My taxes are sufficiently complicated, and my time is sufficiently worthwhile, that I'll happily pay someone to do them for me. Of course, what I consider complicated, others here would think easy-peasy.

Another nice thing about having a tax dude is that having the appointment to go in to get it done, means I pull everything together for that appointment, and don't wait until the very last minute to do them myself.

If you'd get a whole lot more money back by using a tax dude, then you should. Just my opinion.

but I simply have a file folder that is labelled: Tax stuff and the year. It's in pencil, so I just change the year and re-use the folder.

Everything that actually is relevant gets attached to my forms, and anything that turned out not to be relevant I just toss. Misplacing stuff is what I do best, so this has helped a great deal.
