Today, the NRA began airing a new ad. Against a dark backdrop, the ad gives a scary message. The ad is titled the Violence of Lies. Those who are watching American politics would expect a title like that to describe the unprecedented lies of the President. But that is not the message. Instead the ad tells its own lies.
Loeschs commentary says that the left use their media to assassinate real news. They use their schools to teach children that their president is another Hitler. They use their movie stars and singers and comedy shows and awards shows to repeat their narrative over and over again. And then they use their ex-president to endorse the resistance.

Today we can also look at the New York Times - still a bastion of thought and news in America and the paper of record. The Times is running a headline:
Supporters Rally Around Trump in Spite of Reversals
President Trumps policy reversals and other contentious moves are drawing scrutiny from the news media and political adversaries.
But many Trump supporters seem to be rallying around him in the face of what they see as a relentless onslaught on a get-things-done leader.
Many conservatives believe Fox and Limbaugh and NRA ads. These lies on Fox and lies from the NRA are the reasons Trump still has support.
That NRA ad is crap. America has a for-profit mainstream media backed by a conservative propaganda machine. There is no liberal propaganda machine. No liberal Fox, no liberal Limbaugh. And a key aspect of the propaganda machine is they must accuse liberals falsely of doing exactly what the conservative press is doing.
Why is the mainstream media pretending the support is organic?
Why doesn't the New York Times put this in their headlines?
Trump support is high because conservative media lies to Republican voters

(6,916 posts)The conservative media is in all-out lie mode just to keep the president above water.
Without them, GOP voters would be deserting too, approval would be historically low, and impeachment would be under discussion.
If he starts a war now, I am blaming Limbaugh for keeping him alive long enough to do so.

(1,046 posts)Why do you think all the above are trying so hard? Trump never really had as much support as he appeared to - remember Russian spamming and bots.
Many if not most of those who did support him have come to their senses.
The writing is on the wall. This bullshit from NRA and others is pure fucking panic on their part. The GOPs goose is goddamned cooked.

(1,046 posts)Admin, and the GOP is unable to spin the story anymore, watch them scatter like insects to distance themselves. This should set them back 40 years, if not burn their party down completely. They have an increasingly severe credibility problem. One that they won't be able to recover from.

(21,744 posts)ratings along with the inevitable push for impeachment, 45 and the GOP struck a deal.
They will get him off the hook if he does what they tell him to do. Every shift he has made has been to classic Republican positions. In return, they urged him to fucking bomb someone, so he used the rationale of "those poor children in Syria" who he still won't accept as refugees. Totally classic Republicanism.
There is also his theatrical friction with Putin to give the illusion of his not being the puppet he surely is (virtually every member of his cabinet with both domestic or international influence has worked for Russia at some point).
Trump doesn't believe in anything besides making money so he doesn't give a flying fuck what the policies are as long as he makes big bucks and Putin doesn't get too pissed off at him. Hence the change in these policies. You can now bet on his future actions and predictability by asking Ryan and McConnell.
I knew this was going to happen, I just wasn't sure of exactly how it would evolve.

attacking anyone to the left or even center.
I have to admit that I was shocked when the President himself declared the three networks, the WP, and the NYT .. among others "fake news" -- and his spokesmen actually gave press credentials to Jerome Corsi writing for InfoWars (Birther, swiftboater liar) and Breibart! This administration has literally called EVERYTHING that once was considered to be reasonable sources of information that should still be checked against each other and foreign (NOT Russian) news sources to be FAKE NEWS. The truth ... Breitbart, InfoWars and maybe sometimes Fox News! This stands everything I ever believed in on its head.
These bought and paid for ads support that bizarre, strange, alien view of the media.
To me, it is beyond scary -- and the pervasiveness can be seen if you google the name of any Obama official or any well known Democrat. Some time in the last few years, extremely partisan right wing sources are very near the top -- including Breitbart, Daily Caller, Infowars and many others. As I do NOT click in to read them -- their titles suffice, it is not my actions that cause these stories to float to the top. If I understand the google algorithm correctly -- those are the articles that more people clicked on. (If true, this is scarier than if google is paying them to put them high.)

(58,662 posts)always have been, actually. There hasn't been a Pres elected with a true majority of the US electorate in decades. Even Pres Obama's 'majorities' were of the actual votes cast, not the percentage of total eligible voters.
As always, turnout favors Dems and Progressives. An enthusiastic Dem base and attracting more voters from the pool of those who haven't been involved is the Repubs worst nightmare. We should make that nightmare come true.
