I am riding along this morning on the bike trail. This guy pulls onto a road that crosses the trail

and rolls his window down. I stop and he asks me how far the trail goes. I tell him how far it is each away on the trail.
Then out of the blue he says "We need to put prayer back in schools and I think Trump will do it". From the look of him I don't think he has been on bike for 40 year or better, I think the only reason he stopped was to tell me he wants prayer in school and Trump is going to do it. I just told him I had to go rather than engage the idiot in any argument. Besides that there was nobody else around and the fool
could have just shot me. He was obviously nuts anyway since he was a Trump person.

Betsy De Vos is a pagan witch and tRump knew about her when she was appointed. Tell him you've already seen small children playing with sticks like they were magic wands, and if he wants to keep children safe he'd better clean up all the sticks from all the school yards. That would keep him busy.

Let's see how happy this idiot is when the government dictates the religion of all students must be represented and the idiot's kids/grandkids are led in prayer recitals from the Koran.

Hired a local rug cleaning outfit and not only got the rugs cleaned, but a free evangelical come to Jesus pitch too. What goes through a business person's mind that they think bringing up any of the 3 taboo topics sex, religion or politics is a good idea?

I just told him I had to go rather than engage the idiot in any argument.

I wandered into a local bar a few years ago and a tattoo-covered fellow approached me to say he'd never seen me in there before. He initially seemed to be recruiting me to become a "regular" in that place. Then he started sharing white supremacist ideas, and I expressed some contrary views. (Not too much because it was obvious that I wasn't going to sway him anyway.) He glared at me as he walked away.

I should've immediately left that place, but I stuck around for a couple hours to play darts and the like.

As I left and starting walking in the direction of my car, I was knocked out from behind, robbed and ultimately spent the night at an ER. I'm probably lucky to be alive.

In your case, the person was probably a "harmless" Evangelical (but it's smart to not make such an assumption). They're not actually harmless because many of them have no qualms about imposing their beliefs on others, but many of them are so obsessed and deluded with their beliefs that they think they're actually helping this country with such authoritarian actions.

Think of people like Pat Robertson declaring that God punished New Orleans with a hurricane. Once people start thinking along those lines, it's understandable that they'd think they're actually helping everyone by forcing them to comply with THEIR rules.
