Pro-Trump rioters got away with beating anti-fascists in Berkeley and likely wont stop thereThe Berkeley street violence was a great marketing event for alt-right types eager to attack anti-Trump protesters

BERKELEY, CA - APRIL 15: Trump supporters face off with protesters at a "Patriots Day" free speech rally on April 15, 2017 in Berkeley, California. More than a dozen people were arrested after fistfights broke out at a park where supporters and opponents of President Trump had gathered. Most of the demonstrations held on April 15, which was set aside by progressives for marches to demand that Donald Trump reveal his tax returns, were peaceful. The notable exception was the city of Berkeley, California often described as the most liberal community in the nation where things rapidly descended into a street fight between radical right-wingers and more left-leaning counterprotesters.
A group of hard-right extremists came to Berkeley to hold a rally in support of Trump. While they are, of course, claiming that they only resorted to violence in self-defense, its clear from the social-media organizing done ahead of time that their intention was to start a riot.

(10,749 posts)For the most part, these people believe they can get away with this shit because they do get away with this shit. If they were black or Asian or Native American, you can be pretty sure they'd be beaten and arrested post haste. But the police pretty much accept that these people are doing their jobs for them, so why arrest them?

One of the Berkeley protestors was stabbed. No arrests were made, even thought there is tape on one of them cold coking a girl.

The "Alt-Right" is coming back to Berkeley...
But we will gladly escort them back out! Let's come together to enjoy music, food, speakers, and each other's company while we drown out the embarrassing attempts of racists and nationalists to display their hate-fueled support for Trump. Let's fill MLK park with our resilient bodies before these bigots can even show their faces, prevent their rally, and send the message that we aren't down with the hate all while enjoying dope beats and delicious BBQ. 😎
We gonna cook the fash out of Berkeley!
WHAT TO BRING:
#1 YOUR CREW 👥 - Do not come alone! It is crucial to bring your friends so that you can have each other's backs if something were to go down. Even though our goal is to shut down the pro-Trump rally before it can even happen, there is a pattern of fascists and Trump supporters coming armed to rallies and attacking anti-racists, especially targetting Black, Trans and Gender Non-Conforming people.*
#2 A MASK👺 - Masking up or otherwise concealing your identity helps protect you from the alt-right and the state. There is a risk of the alt-right doxxing individuals for the purposes of online harassment campaigns which can lead to off-line consequences. You also want to assure the state does not identify you so they cannot target you for repression later on. Consider bringing an extra mask in case someone else might need one!
#3 FOOD (if you can)🌽 - Bring food to share if you can, but no worries if you can't!
*In the last year, emboldened by Trump's hate campaign, we have seen an intense rise in white supremacist activity and targetted attacks. From burning Black churches to vandalizing Mosques, there is no limit to how low these bigots will stoop. And we have seen the horrors they commit when confronted in the streets. From the shooting of a GDC member in Seattle at a Milo Yiannopoulos protest to the 7 people (almost all of whom were Black or Trans) stabbed by neo-nazis on June 26th, 2016 at the state's capital Trump supporters and the far-right aren't hesitant to commit heinous acts of violence. After all, they have the support of the white-supremacist State and the badged goons! So while we're out there enjoying ourselves, let's remember to be careful, keep our eyes peeled and have each other's backs. ♡

(27,215 posts)Does he realize that the vast majority of Greek warriors were bisexual?
Just wondering, because I have the feeling that most Trump-humpers are not LGBTQ friendly.
He doesn't know because there aren't any comic books to show him history. He thinks 'The 300' is a documentary.

I've avoided it, because it looks like a macho fantasy, but I guess I really need to watch it....

(11,279 posts)not much to know. It casts the Spartans as the Manly Men, the invading Persians as freaks and homosexuals, and the Athenians as weak civilians who can't defend themselves. (even though they kicked Sparta's ass much of the time).
And like all manly-man fantasies that are very concerned with manly-manliness and not being like those fey Persians, it features a bunch of fit men running around with their shirts off.

(208 posts)with special guest Ann Coulter.
Since this event is being held on campus grounds, I'm predicting another shit storm of epic proportions.
This bridge has a troll. And nothing good can come of trying to cross it.
On April 27, right-wing polemicist Ann Coulter will come to speak on campus about illegal immigration as part of a three-part series hosted by newly founded campus club bridgeCal.
Why this club thought Coulter was a reputable source to speak on an immigration is beyond us. With her past incendiary remarks toward Muslims, Mexicans and many other communities of color, Coulter has shown an unwillingness to partake in intellectual discourse. Simply put, she would astonish us if she sparked meaningful dialogue on campus.
But beyond that, bringing a controversial troll onto campus hoping to bridge the divide among political ideologies seems like a familiar attempt to create a dialogue the same misguided rhetoric used by Berkeley College Republicans when they invited Milo Yiannopoulos to speak on campus in February. We all know how that ended.

(100,108 posts)This is just one disaster after another. Having Ann Coulter "bridge the gap" between liberals and conservatives is like having Alex Jones teach an anger management class.
