It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong woman stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the woman who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends herself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if she fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that her place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.

(2,074 posts)When I went to see An Inconvenient Truth I walked out of the theater almost in tears at the thought that we could have had an intelligent man like Al Gore for president instead of an idiot like Bush. This time that feeling is a 100 times amplified, because the person currently in the White House is even worse than Bush, and the loss of this intelligent, thoughtful first female president is something I will never get over. The fact that she won the actual vote with even more than Gore did, makes it even worse.
This is a beautiful letter, and yes, lump in throat and tears in eyes.

(2,959 posts)after the election. I got one. What also impressed me is that there was no fund raising link to that e-mail. It simply thanked supporters.
I don't expect Hillary Clinton to run for office again but I'll always be proud I supported her. The above letter to you is one of the many reasons why.
