Ann Coulter rejects Berkeley’s new invite; GOP students threaten to sue college

By William Wan April 21 at 12:17 PM

Ann Coulter is rejecting an offer to speak at the University of California at Berkeley on a new date, after the university canceled her event over safety concerns, then quickly reversed itself saying it would reschedule it.

Coulter says she can’t make it the new date and accused the university of continuing to try to place restrictions on her free speech. And the student group that invited Coulter is now threatening to sue the school.

The university on Wednesday announced that it was canceling Coulter’s April 27 appearance following several political protests in Berkeley that turned violent. But amid mounting criticism and national attention, the school on Thursday said it had found a venue where it could hold the speech on a different date, May 2.

Coulter and the college Republican group that invited her rejected the new arrangement.

In a series of tweets Thursday night, Coulter criticized the university, saying Berkeley officials were adding “burdensome” conditions to her speech. She said she had already spent money to hold the event on April 27 and is not available May 2. She also pointed out that later date would coincide with a reading period before final exams, when there are no classes on campus and fewer students around.

Haven't they figured out that cancelling appearances by assholes like Coulter does exactly what they want? The only reason they accept these "offers" to speak at Berkeley is with the hope that it will be cancelled. That way they get all kinds of TV time and attention they don't deserve and they get to do what conservatives do best...Play the fucking victim all the way to the bank.

Berkeley should offer them a place to speak and the vast majority of the students, faculty and staff should just ignore the event.

It just gives the deplorables another arrow in their quiver to use against us.

"See! Liberals are all for free speech unless it's someone they disagree with." They will trumpet this loudly and often.

I suppose this could have been just a little more ironic, had it been a direct quote in the WaPo.

a protestor got shot at close range in front of a wall of riot police by a woman who felt her husband's life was in danger outside a Yiannopoulis speech at the Univ of Washington on Inauguration day.

what was the shooting victim doing? grabbing a can of pepper spray her husband was deploying on the protestors.

the college republicans are trolling Cal. bring the suit.

Why are they depending on some socialist cost-sharing arrangement (student activity fees) dictate their actions? Why don't they pull up their bootstraps and use the free market to pay Coulter's fee and rent a hall? Then they can all gather to their mean little hearts' content and listen to Coulter's deathless pronouncements. Instead, they're threatening to go running off to the courts like common ambulance chasing professional victims trying to hit the ghetto lottery.

Such sensitive, delicate little He-Man Masters of the Universe they are.

That trolls' schtick has always been to say the most offensive thing possible, then play the victim when she was called on it.

She has to be in a position to generate her outrage at a slight she forced upon herself. Calling her an attention whore would be massively disrespectful of a class of people that provide an honest service under difficult circumstances.
