Progressive Democrat

I like being on Du. I am a star member, I have friends here and I learn a lot. I have learned a lot about the views of moderate Democrats and on occasion progressive Democrats. I would like to see more discussion and tolerance for progressive Democrats’ on DU (and within our Democratic Party), so maybe a thread about this will help.

Can we have a kind and open discussion about respect, honor and validity for differing positions within our Democratic Party and for that to play out here on DU? Its okay that our Party has a variety of positions and it is crucial that we learn how to blend our Party views.

This is NOT a divisive thread. This is a discussion about respect, honor and validating differing positions within our Party and I would like to see this here on DU. Personally, I would like to be able to post progressive Democratic positions without fear of being flagged or having a post removed. I frequently hold back, adjust and self-monitor so I fit-in with the moderates and not be flagged. Could the DU forum monitors and fellow DU participants find a balance of tolerance and respect? Can we do this within our Party and on DU?

We must acknowledge and rectify that our Democratic Party has (at least) two major factions, that being of progressive and moderate. How do we as one-party share, act upon, and give equal power to our shared stances within one party? This is an important and crucial ongoing discussion for our Party to come together with great power - today, 2018 and beyond.

If we hope to take back the reigns of power in Congress and the presidency, we're going to need all of us under the Democratic tent. Here's hoping your post inspires discussion and respect. I pray that the ones who hope to divide us will be ignored and move on.

That goes on both ways here. To say that someone is not progressive is often meant as a slur. And recently I've seen the word "progressive" (sometimes put in quotes) used to imply that many who identify with that term are only passionate about fighting for economic justice to the at least partial exclusion of core social issues related to woman's rights, sexual orientation, racial justice, etc.

I am increasing my personal efforts to remain respectful toward other member of our Democratic coalition in my postings here, (though I do fall short sometimes)

No tolerance for that crap at all.

I have no idea who you are labeling moderate, but if it's just people who don't like Bernie Sanders, then that's very insulting. Sanders just threw women under the bus and I'm not down with his brand of "progressive" politics.

I'm not sure what "progressive" things you are saying that makes you fear getting flagged.
