WHY THE FUCK am I seeing drumf whining at his rally on MSNBC LIVE stream online?
It's bad...40-50 cars hit and mangled on I-20 alone...people trapped. Getting info via Twitter since cable seems more interested in drumfasswipe.

(9,974 posts)And to make it worse...it's First Monday Weekend in Canton. It's the HUGE flea market that happens the first Monday of each month. People come from everywhere and get into the area the weekend before the 1st Monday. Which is now. Most likely all the hotels are already full of out of towners and there will be a shitload of RV's all over. So there will be no hotels for locals to go to if they need shelter.
They will need many, many Red Cross shelters and aid.
Were there proper local warnings?

Luckily, we changed our plans.
Stay safe, people!

(9,974 posts)But, go ahead, cable news...just let Don the Con rant endlessly about the 2016 election.
And they wonder why people turn to other sources for news.

(19,565 posts)Right now Trump is their ratings pork. If these tornadoes harm enough people they'll be the story after him.

(33,956 posts)From a dealership that was hit because there were so many. Then I reminded my husband it was First Monday. I'd be surprised if most of the cars weren't occupied.

(19,565 posts)I'm deeply worried for people I know who we're heading there. They run a little resale shop just outside of Austin, and I can't reach them.

(33,956 posts)There have been lots of injuries due to multiple tornadoes.
There isn't a hospital in Canton. I think the closest ones will be in Tyler and Terrell and Kaufman which are all about 20-30 minutes away. I will tell you though that there are several areas in Canton that you can't get cell phone service. I am hoping your friends are just in one of those pockets.

(19,565 posts)I'm staying calm and have messaged them. I'm hopeful I'll hear from them soon. Thank you for your thoughtful words, though.
Their daughter contacted me and I passed on your information to her.

(9,974 posts)If ANYone at the dinner has any balls...it would be a good time to announce a mass casualty event has happened and it is needing coverage so they will be turning OFF their dinner cameras and the media people in attendance are needed back at their stations for coverage....pretty sure they can do that in tuxes and ball gowns?!?!

(8,747 posts)The local stations, especially the weather people, have been doing a great job. Counties east of Dallas County are getting hit hard by severe weather. We missed it all in Ft. Worth.

(33,956 posts)Some of the storms from Oklahoma were moving through but nothing severe. The most severe stuff is what was coming from the south. I hoped I would get home before it hit and luckily I did.

(9,974 posts)She put a comment in a FB news link post that she was at the trading day site and when word came that a 2nd tornado warning was in effect a lot of people got in their cars to leave the area. Hopefully this didn't lead to a higher casualty rate...there's a reason people are told to shelter in place during a tornado warning.
But I could see how people could panic and think they would just get away, especially if they were non-locals at trading days and not familiar with tornado safety, etc..
Last Twitter report said 5 deaths. I hope daylight findings don't increase that number. Some cars were blown into a creek, apparently. A local TV station photojournalist was interviewed. He had talked to his first responder son who said that they had pulled a child out of a car in the creek and CPR was in progress.
Thank goodness for social media. It has it's ups and downs but in cases like this all the breaking news and updates/local people speaking out are coming via FB and Twitter. If we relied on MSM we'd maybe find out Monday sometime that this had happened...

(33,956 posts)We have to go to Canton twice a month. The town does not have a good layout for a tornado to hit. Emory has a community shelter. Canton should think about something like that---especially around Trade Days.
I heard about CPR on the kid while on the way to Childrens. I didn't hear that they were in the creek.
I expect daylight will increase the numbers.
