...I think that would be a perfect choice to unify our party! He's got my vote for sure.

(56,828 posts)he's 74 years old now.
But, he's the perfect guy to debate Trump as he's quick on his feet and great with a quip. Hillary destroyed Trump in the debates as well, but she's not great with the quips like Joe.

And he'll turn 78 that year. I'm sorry, but too old is too old.

(4,961 posts)a role in a Democratic administration would be great and he can provide much wisdom. But if the Democrats think they could win with Biden they are doomed to keep making the same mistakes that have lost them the House, Senate, State governments and the Presidency.

(23,690 posts)I love Joe Biden and think he would be an awesome President. But unfortunately because of his age, I just don't see him being elected.

(11,686 posts)that we had the choice of Biden or a repuke who would you all vote for? Yeah, he is 74 but he seems to be in very good health so that doesn't worry me. For me I want Warren but in the end if Biden was the only choice I would vote for him in a heartbeat. The first time around I did vote for Bernie but when he did not make it I had absolutely no problem voting for Hillary. That is the way it would work with the first round between Warren and Biden. I like them both. An after thought by the way, is that if we got Biden it would be close to having Obama and maybe Biden would put Obama into a position that is high as he would be allowed to put him in.

(17,006 posts)Campaign for a candidate, yes, but he is too old to run. IMO, part of Obama's appeal was he was a youngish man with a lot of energy. Young enough to connect with the 18-25 yo voters but old enough not to scare the older voters. These things matter. Marketing and advertising companies wouldn't be in business if none of it mattered.

(54,405 posts)IDEALLY (i.e. in his opinion), an incoming president shouldn't be over 50. Having been a presidential candidate himself at one time, he wasn't just shooting off theories from his armchair. He had been there and done that (at over the age of 50, by the way).
If you look at the age of all post-war Democratic presidents who first got to the White House by election (i.e. excluding LBJ and Harry Truman), there is indeed a pattern. The ones who got elected on their own, coming out of nowhere, were JFK (age 43), Jimmy Carter (age 52), Bill Clinton (age 46) and Barack Obama (age 47). OK, OK, I know that Al Gore and Hillary Clinton really won their elections, but they never took office, so I'm not including them in my list.
On the whole, young and dynamic inspires us. It works. Republicans tick differently, so there's no sense in making a comparison. I would have no problem seeing Joe Biden as president I would have a problem seeing him as a candidate.
My friend thinks we need to present some new blood. I agree.
