and will vote with Republicans next week to repeal the Healthcare Reform Bill. The disappointment I feel with this 'Dem' is greater than I know how to express. The number of people who put time, energy, and money to get this guy into office in '08 was huge (I personally worked my fingers to the bone for his campaign).
I think this entire episode with Kissell is pretty much 'the story' of how frustrated we (Dems, Progressives) have felt since 2008. We worked hard to change the tone in DC and in many cases we just got more of the same.
This Congressman, in particular, was a teacher. He has missed several chances to educate the people of his district, choosing instead to let the lies Fox and friends have fed them become real. In 2009 when Healthcare Reform was being addressed he did not correct the lies about it that were being presented as truth. At the end of the day my frustration comes from helping someone who presented himself as one who would do right by the people of this district. That means doing the right thing and doing what will help this district and country even if there is a chance you'll lose the next election. If done well and correctly, educating the district's constituents about the benefits of these programs could even bring more supporters.

Last week, Kissell was one of 17 Democrats who voted with Republicans to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in criminal contempt of Congress. And next week, he plans to vote with them again to repeal President Barack Obamas health care law.
Ive heard from hundreds and hundreds of people from my district about their opposition to the health care law, Kissell told the Charlotte Observer Monday. I voted against it originally and I will vote to repeal it.
Kissell also said he doesnt plan to endorse Obama for re-election and isnt sure hell attend his partys national convention in Charlotte.
Kissell represents the 8th District, which runs from Mecklenburg County to Robeson County. Last years redistricting added heavily Republican areas of Rowan, Davidson and Randolph counties while removing thousands of Democratic voters in Charlotte and Fayetteville.

(4,340 posts)If your district is that republican and conservative, you're toast. It doesn't matter how much you vote against President Obama and fellow Democrats. If your constituents are dumb enough to actually want a real republican, they're going to get themselves a real republican (or worse.)

(2,307 posts)I know his district has been redrawn and includes more Republican. Maybe the best thing he could do is embrace Obama, talk about the ACA, and what the Republicans are doing to this country. Who know standing on your values may actually work. I think he just lost because if I was the Republican I would make this a campaign point. "If he is ashamed of HIS parties president, do you really want him to be your congressman"? All of my ads would say.
But that is just me.

(131 posts)Because if they run a Republican challenger against him next time, he is going to lose anyway. If it is one thing I can't stand is someone who will throw away their principles just to look good.

(131 posts)he is still going to lose! This is actually what I hate about Democrats who do not stand by their principles and will stand against ours with Republican traitors against this President. They have morals at all, none. Why not vote your conscience and if you lose next time, which he is going to anyway, because unlike the Democrats in Massachusetts who are supporting Brown over Warren, Republicans do not slit their candidates throat, they slit ours.

Both of these so-called Democrats are POS.

(1,693 posts)Don't they fucking get it? If a voter hates Obama, why the hell do you think they're gonna vote for you? Why do so many cowards in our party keep bowing to the Obama hating wingnuts? They don't give a damn if you're gonna endorse Obama or not. They're still not gonna vote for you!! So you might as well act like a Democrat and endorse the president. It's so ridiculous.
