3. The math for the CEO is way off.

He actually needs to work about 0.5 seconds for that gallon of milk.

That's 50 times more precious labor than was suggested in the graphic.

Poor rich little piggy is just sooooo fucking oppressed!

12. Actually, I think that should be part of the accounting in everything, trees, water, etc.

We're mining this planet as if it's a throw away and not restoring what we take, or valuing it much.

6. Holy cow is that average CEO pay or someone in particular?

That can't be average. There's a lot of millionaire CEOs (and billionaire probably) but there's also a lot making in say the $200k range (I work in a community hospital and I'm guessing this is abt what our CEO makes). If he's making $20k an hour, he's working for free after the first 10 hours of the year?

7. $20,160/hour is over $40,000,000/year. not too many ceos make that kind of cheddar.

but the point is not really to compare the median worker to the median ceo.
even if that were the single top earner in the country, it still points our how ridiculous it is.

i mean, seriously, 10 people making $4 million/year each can't do better than one person earning $40 million?
or 1,000 people making $40,000/year each?

10. Yes it is.

That's precisely the point.

If there are only 10 people making $40 million/year, then where the outcry for raising the minimum wage? It's not like we're comparing two actual groups, we're left with comparing a group against a few aberrant individuals. The social injustice isn't one of class but of a class versus a few individuals--and individual injustices are easy to resolve without resorting to something that affects a class. In a country of 300 million, even if it's 100 or 1000 making $40 million/year doesn't quite cut it--assuming that's cash, not compensation mostly in nebulous stock options and retirement benefits (which is often the case).

If minimum wage is 0.5 hours, median wage is .2 hours, and median CEO is only 0.05 hours, yeah, there's an order of magnitude difference between the lowest and highest. But 10x is a number that can be understood and while envied, not provoke the same kind of outrage.

If the median is 0.005 hours, then we can still stoke the outrage. But even then, it's not as egregious as replacing "hour" by "second" and still making the decimal smaller.

The average CEO pay even in the largest companies alone (not counting smaller ones so making it as high as possible) is $12.9MM, and the average price of milk is $3.42.

13. I'm surprised that it's pretty realistic in terms of the time it probably does take.

Why is that so unfair in terms of the pricing for normal people?
