Comey's letter -- and what stands out to me.

He's calling on everyone to carry his mission on; that their responsibility is to the American people -- not some incumbent President.

http://www.businessinsider.com/james-comey-fbi-letter-2017-5

To all:

I have long believed that a President can fire an FBI Director for any reason, or for no reason at all. I'm not going to spend time on the decision or the way it was executed. I hope you won't either. It is done, and I will be fine, although I will miss you and the mission deeply.

I have said to you before that, in times of turbulence, the American people should see the FBI as a rock of competence, honesty, and independence. What makes leaving the FBI hard is the nature and quality of its people, who together make it that rock for America.

It is very hard to leave a group of people who are committed only to doing the right thing. My hope is that you will continue to live our values and the mission of protecting the American people and upholding the Constitution. If you do that, you too will be sad when you leave, and the American people will be safer.

Working with you has been one of the great joys of my life. Thank you for that gift.

Jim Comey

Comey misled everybody about Clinton’s

snip//

FBI director James Comey just can’t get it right when it comes to talking about Hillary Clinton’s emails. Though the presidential election was now six months ago, Comey is still misleading people about the emails, and the FBI can’t even figure out how to correct it all.

The latest revelation comes from a new report from ProPublica about something Comey said in his testimony last week to the Senate Judiciary Committee. He claimed that Huma Abedin, one of Clinton’s top advisers, made “a regular practice” of forwarding “hundreds and thousands” of Clinton’s emails — “some of which contain classified information” — to her husband, Anthony Weiner. According to Comey, she did this so that Weiner could print them out for Clinton to read on paper.

Apparently, that story wasn’t accurate. FBI officials privately confirmed to ProPublica that Comey’s account of Abedin’s actions just doesn’t hold water. In reality, Abedin only forwarded a few emails, not “hundreds and thousands” as Comey claimed. Also, none of the messages she sent were marked as classified at the time they were sent. The FBI suspects other emails appeared on Weiner’s computer as a result of Abedin’s Blackberry backups. It’s unclear if any of the 12 classified emails Comey said they found there had actually been among the handful she forwarded.

The FBI originally planned to send a letter to Congress this week correcting Comey’s version of events, but that plan is apparently still on hold. In the meantime, congressional Republicans have still been using Comey’s story to further litigate Clinton’s emails. During a hearing on Monday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) asked former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper how he’d react if an employee had sent “hundreds or even thousands” of emails to their spouse, obviously referencing Comey’s testimony.

Comey talks a good line and might even believe his own lies but he's a snake and interfered with the democratic process bigtime. Let him run for office and capitalize on his injuries if he wants to, or write a book and get rich, but he was no better than any other wingnut.

And what his agency did to Hillary in 2016 is just the tip of the iceberg. I'd happily give him the benefit of the doubt if he hadn't repeatedly proven his bad faith in the email "investigation" which any objective analyst would have chucked on day 1.

the 2016 election. Good chance we wouldn't be talking about this shit now if he hadn't of come out with his "letter"..

Clinton: 'If the election had been on October 27, I would be your president'

"I take absolute personal responsibility. I was the candidate, I was the person who was on the ballot. I am very aware of the challenges, the problems, the shortfalls that we had," Clinton said, before adding that she was "on the way to winning until a combination of Jim Comey's letter on October 28 and Russian WikiLeaks raised doubts in the minds of people who were inclined to vote for me and got scared off."

Bid to revoke Obama-era methane rules fails in U.S. Senate

snip//

In a blow to administration efforts to free the oil and gas industry from Obama-era environmental rules, a Senate resolution to revoke a rule to limit leaks and flaring of methane from oil and gas production on federal lands fell short of votes 49-51 on Wednesday.

The surprise vote outcome came after Republican leaders scrambled for weeks to secure the 51 votes necessary to pass the Congressional Review Act resolution, which would revoke the rule and prevent any similar regulations from being introduced.

Getting the Trump administration to repeal the Interior Department's Bureau of Land Management methane rule had been a top priority of the oil and gas industry, but not all Republicans supported the measure because it would make it difficult to regulate methane waste in the future.

Republican Senator John McCain of Arizona made a surprise vote against the resolution, joining fellow Republicans Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Susan Collins of Maine in opposition.

That's what has been reported recently -- that Chaffetz removed the classified markings and made it public. So Comey wasn't intending to make it public. That's on Chaffetz -- and is the reason he's not running for re-election.

I'm not saying Comey is a hero, except in relative terms. We had a chance of getting to the bottom of this with Comey, who had just asked Congress for more funding so he could expand the investigation. A few days later, he was fired. And any new Director will have to swear the loyalty oath to DT that Comey refused to swear.

and dragged the thing out interminably. And don't forget that the only serious domestic terrorist attack in Obama's tenure happened on his watch, in San Bernardino, and that didn't exactly help us in November.

p.s. the Russia thing is never going anywhere while there's a GOP House and Senate so the time to act on that would have been while Obama was still in office. He didn't. "Mission" accomplished.

You are saying that Chaffetz removed classification markings from that document, tweeted it out, and that was not mentioned by any of the other recipients of the letter?

Where was this remarkable new fact reported, as you claim.

"That's what has been reported recently -- that Chaffetz removed the classified markings and made it public."

Where has this been reported?

Comey, in fact, recently testified on the matter of that letter, and it is certainly odd that he did not mention what you claim "has been reported recently".

Can you point me to this report?
