Liberals are the real racist

I hear conservatives making this stupid argument all the time as if the Democrats of that day were liberal. They like to pretend that both parties ideologies have not changed 180 degrees. But what I find even more funny is the same person who like to claim this are the same people who defend the confederate flag and monuments.

in the Civil war they are angry because they still want black people to be their slaves. Repubs are the Democrats of that time.

Just tell your GOP apologists that racists have been part of the GOP since 1968 - 50 years. Yes racists have been in both parties over the years. But modern racists are republicans. And have been for 50 years.

5. This is the most annoying conservative talking point.

I usually reply with: "if that is the case, then why are REPUBLICANS the ones fighting to keep up Confederate Civil War monuments, support the confederate flag, and currently make up the vast majority of the KKK and neo-nazi groups?"

I usually get a response along the lines of 'well, at least the Republicans fought against slavery and didn't start the KKK' -- which does not answer the question at all.

6. In their mind there were two civil wars

One was the one where the liberals started a war with the conservatives. The liberals wanted to keep slavery but lost the war, and then founded the KKK.

The other is the one were their southern ancestors fought against an oppressive regime to defend their homeland. This is the one where they want to honor their heritage.

See it was two different wars.
