President Donald Trump will make good on a promise to investigate alleged vote fraud with an executive order on Tuesday, White House officials tell NBC News.
The order will establish a commission to review alleged voter fraud and voter suppression throughout the American election system. Vice President Mike Pence will head the group, called the "Presidential Commission on Election Integrity." Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach will serve as vice chair.
The panel will be tasked with studying "vulnerabilities" in the voting system, as well as potential impacts on "improper voting, fraudulent voter registrations, and fraudulent voting."

As maybe a lot of you know, Kris Kobach is the infamous Trump adviser behind "Interstate Crosscheck", which helped take many minority voters of the rolls to ensure a Trump victory.

This "commission" is just a trick to worsen the integrity of the voting system and making sure that Republicans are elected in spite of their recent fall from grace...
I will write my senators and rep about this, but this doesn't bode well at all...who can stop this??! I have no idea...

(6,916 posts)Do you need to register to pay taxes?
To serve on juries?
So why do we have to "register" to vote?
Government knows who is voter eligible. The whole registration system was used during Jim Crow to suppress votes.
WinkyDink
(51,311 posts)being REGISTERED as property owners; employees; citizens (per capita), etc.
Do you KNOW how people are chosen for jury duty (Hint: We're REGISTERED TO VOTE.)?
You seem completely unaware of what actually transpires when one goes to vote---AND WHY.

(24,653 posts)You can get called for jury duty without being registered to vote.
Having a state-issued ID or driver's license, buying a home, and/or filing tax returns can get you on the list as well.

Kris Kobach works for Trump, and will only make things worse.
About 2 million voters were taken off the rolls for "voter fraud" in 2016, just because they had similar last names in two or more states, even when the first name or the middle name was different. Usually, typical African American, Hispanic or Asian names.
Check it out at http://www.gregpalast.com

And Kobach is one of the people responsible for some of the picture id's.

(15,943 posts)So, we can forgo not showing photo id, however, you have to sign a statement why you don't own a photo id.
I am a precinct chair since 2008, and I keep a watchful eye on our clerks. Although, they have generally been on the up and up if you can believe it.

(5,801 posts)on the part of national Democratic leadership. A colossal strategic blunder that just enables the GOPee to keep upping the ante. No one stops them other than the judiciary on occasion, and look where it got them this time--control of the entire government.
If this goes to the Supremely Biased Court, Gosuck will enshrine voter suppression.
Perhaps Dem leadership is finally taking this seriously--I hope so.
Confidence in their ability to suppress the vote likely accounts for the GOPee feeling that they can push through their tax cut for the wealthy, aka AHCA, and also shrug at dump's incompetence. They think they have 2018 and 2020 in the bag.
Massive voter registration and turnout seems to be our only route to fight back.
Oh, and pukes hate democracy.

(15,943 posts)you don't need your voter registration card to vote at least not in Texas. You can just show a photo id. I've voted like that way before we were forced to show a photo id.

(6,916 posts)Ossoff has a group called Let America Vote, focused specifically on voter suppression.
Donate to him and say you want election day on a Sunday as in France to make it easier for workers to vote. GOP wants to reduce hours because young workers lean Dem.
Voter suppression is on the DNC radar too.

If any make a sound of doing anything, they'll think twice, if Trump has a hand in manipulating votes.
