Firing Comey was obstruction of justice, an impeachable offense.

All the going back and forth can confuse people pretty easy, but the bottom line is that tRump's actions constitute obstruction of justice.

Multiple reports state that tRump was upset about the growing Russia investigation and wanted Comey gone.

The second tRump fired Comey he committed a crime that should get him impeached.

It's really that simple.

for the actual case against Trump. Maybe he does not want to taint/jeopardize the case ?

Comey could certainly say whether or not this alleged dinner occurred.

I have no doubt that Trump fired Comey in a fit of anger over Comey's failure to suck up and because he couldn't completely control Comey.

But the head of the FBI, by statute, serves at the pleasure of the President, who can fire him for any reason or no reason at all. And proving obstruction of justice would require proving that the investigation would be significantly impeded by Comey's firing -- a difficult thing to prove since anything Comey knows he had to have learned from the folks in the Bureau actually conducting the investigation, reviewing transcripts, documents, evidence etc.
