It's not melodramatic to say that the US, as a nation of consumers, has lost its purpose-- to a citizen. When we all became branded as consumers, we lost our identity as citizens. Now our political process is couched in monetary terms. It's PACs and Super PACs that carry the weight of electoral politics because it's media money that pushes the narratives. Political parties then pressure news media to frame issues in profitable ways. They manage voting with an impact perhaps more substantial than Korbach's interstate crosschecking system.
