would the usual 10 percent suffice for the risk a bail-bond company would be taking on? Usually, one customer skipping out won't bankrupt a company. Zimmerman might have to negotiate with Lloyd's of London or some other huge firm for a six-figure bond to be posted.

From the statement Zimmerman's legal team issued after today's bond hearing:

http://gzlegalcase.com/index.php/press-releases/34-regarding-the-one-million-dollar-bond-set-for-george-zimmerman

Today, Judge Lester set George Zimmerman's bond at $1,000.000. In order to get out of jail, Mr. Zimmerman will have to pay a bail bond company $100,000 (10% of the bond amount) and have collateral worth $1,000,000.

George Zimmerman and his family do not have anywhere near $1,000,000 for collateral so even if we pay the $100,000 fee, the bail bond company will have to agree to work with us on how the collateral would be posted. We are encouraged we can work this out. We paid $15,000 initially for the first bail fee so an additional fee of $85,000 would have to be paid to post this new bond assuming we can work out the collateral issue.

So he really only needs another $85,000 to add to his original bond fee amount to total 100K, but the bond company wants a million dollars' worth of collateral as well. That's the problem for them right now.

In his nine-page order, the judge today chastised Zimmerman.

"By any definition, the defendant has flaunted the system," Lester wrote. "It appears to this court that the defendant is manipulating the system for his own benefit."

The judge accused Zimmerman of committing a new felony – lying while providing evidence about bail - and hinted that he might bring "future contempt proceedings."

Lester was troubled, he wrote, that Zimmerman and his wife hid the money and that George Zimmerman had, until recently, a second, undisclosed passport.

Those things, to him, meant the couple was about to flee.

"Notably, together with the passport, the money only had to be hidden for a short time for him to leave the country if the defendant made a quick decision to flee. It is entirely reasonable for this court to find that, but for the requirement that he be placed on electronic monitoring, the defendant and his wife would have fled the United States with at least $130,000 of other people's money."

Lester is unhappy, he wrote, that no one offered any testimony, explaining why Shellie Zimmerman said what she did at that April 20 bond hearing, why her husband did nothing to correct her and why they were moving money around in secret in the first place.

He accused Zimmerman of lying to not just to him but also to O'Mara, who early on told the judge he would represent the defendant for free and would ask for public money to pay expenses, such as for experts and an investigator.
