Offshore assets: How does the money get there?

This is the important question. Moving your money directly offshore is traceable (unless it's cash on a private plane). Offshore accounts are OFTEN funded illegally. Bribes, payoffs - how are they delivered? You can't just cut the guy a check and have him drop it off at Bank of America.

Tax avoidance is one motive but a larger question is WHO FUNDED THE OFFSHORE ACCOUNT/S?

Some corporations hold board meetings in a country into which they deposit their money.

The income in those accounts may have been earned on foreign investments. All that off-shoring? Must earn money on the investments overseas.
