Well, they're child-proofing Europe & the Middle East. Maybe things'll be OK.

Even if the hairbucket in-chief shows up giving a big "Thumbs UP!!!" gesture to cultures that read a big "FU" into it. EVEN if he's flanked by 2 armed people. One holding a passel of handout laminated electoral maps. The other there for photo ops: she's there to hastily arrange his hair and undo his undie-wedgies for him. Even if he expresses disgust at the steak he's been given and spends the rest of dinner staring it down. Silently.

They've ALL been given explicit instructions as to how to endure him. That was kind, maybe. Wasn't it? Maybe the man in life isn't really as tough as all that. He must be fascinating to stare at, like a horror movie in-person. He must be a little horrifying to those who are not forced to identify him as their own "representative". What man or woman, in his presence, hasn't wondered how quickly they could take this one to the floor and please GOD shut him up. I wonder how much a periphery he needs to have, physically & personally controlled, around him.

Anyway, do these foreign professionals really, really mean to adhere to that? Aren't you pretty much allowed to insult a visitor (whether or not you mean to) on your own soil, because it's YOUR Country? We do it all the time here! That would be very classy of them to read these "handler's" rules, then to try and put themselves somehow in Trump's shoes. Maybe give him the benefit of the doubt and decide he's "eccentric". But, it would also be classy if they thought he could benefit from a few lessons in culture, and just do things the way they would, as if a grownup has come to visit them.

I have no doubt that whatever will be, will happen, God help us all.

What a position that would be to be in. Decide to humor the baby & pad everything so he feels all nurtured, or when the child gives you the finger (a thumbs-up) you send it to bed without dinner.

mid flight. I'd be in if they were taking bets. I'd say 3 days tops. He'll probably feel "surrounded" very quickly, given his (halfway-legit) paranoia. 4 days if there's someone there carrying his golf clubs around cause they make him feel safe.

Get together and discuss how to deal with a situation of their child so that they are on the same page to let the child know they are both in it together. Sad that our so called president is like a spoiled child....OK, he is not a child but he is spoiled.

Maybe that's giving him too much credit. Your description made me think of scenes; meetings in the principal's office, low talk at the table when junior's just thrown a bowl of oatmeal at the wall. And that whole, "How do we get the baby to shut up?" scene! I wonder how any rational adult person could play into that & come out feeling like they don't suddenly need a shower.

He'll do it, fuck things up at every step. His need to control absolutely everything is going to have consequences.

On the other hand, I can see him cancelling numerous obligations, and having a lie-down for the rest of the week. Destroying as much as possible beforehand, so he can "chill out" after.

It doesn't take much to envision that clod yanking some dignitary's arm practically out of its socket, and then "owning" that arm by the elbow- grabbing it with his other little hand. And the dignitary's "understanding" that Trump simply can't control his behavior. Things like this keep surprising me, every time, because nobody in this country has ever laid eyes on SUCH a disastrous "presidential" spectacle. No one knows how to process this.

Thanks, lilmissmartypants!
