What is with the color of his hair? He dyed it platinum blonde for his trip.
Why is there no one in his family who can tell him how ridiculous and foolish he looks?

(38,019 posts)Hair is crazy personal and getting someone to change a style that they are convinced works for them is next to impossible. I was a cosmetologist for a decade and trust me, some people will never change they way they wear their hair.

(16,878 posts)Last week he looked completely gray, and yet now he's blonde. I think I read here that Melania does his dye job. I mean, whatever floats his boat, but I think it does show his level of vanity and self consciousness.
How I'd love to see a "Nixon" moment and watch that dye melt in a swath of sweat in the Mideast heat!

(25,587 posts)When he was young it was light brown.
He dyes his hair darker to some shade of blonde to cover the white. He doesn't lighten it.
White hair is very resistant to dye. It fades and washes out. This is why he runs around with varying shades of color.
Roots are harder to dye than the rest of the hair. This means he has perpetual white roots. He probably would just look better if he let it grow white.
I'm a woman who dyes my gray hair at home. I've got oodles of supplies LOL. It is very time consuming, but it saves tons of money.

(25,902 posts)I gave up dying mine nearly a decade ago because it is so gray and grows so fast that I was coloring it every ten days, and was going to have to go to once a week, because I cannot personally abide obvious roots. That's just me.
Hair color is tricky. Please do not take this personally, since I have no idea what you or your hair look like, but too many people who choose to color it themselves just don't get it right. I'm sure yours is very well done, but as we've all noticed, the donald's is so obviously an amateur job that it's a disgrace.

(5,231 posts)I was a strawberry blonde as a young woman, and all the red strands turned silver in my late 30s. My hair grows crazy fast, and the roots bothered me too, so I just went natural. Mostly because I don't look right (coloring-wise) with caramel blondes or browns, and any coppery-reds, like my natural color, simply will not hold in silver/blonde hair. I'd be dyeing it every week.
On the humorous side, I get asked by people all the time how I got such a realistic-looking silver-blonde (which is where it is at now) - "who is your colorist?!" lol

(25,902 posts)there is no hair dye that begins to match them.
My sister-in-law was a true strawberry blonde, really a lovely hair color. It more or less turned blonde, then completely white. She never colored it, which was a good choice for her. But I'm sure she misses her original hair color.
I was a medium brown with a natural blonde streak at the very top of my scalp. Very distinctive and I totally loved it. That blonde streak turned white a bit ahead of the gray. Right now if you look closely you can see that the original blonde streak is whiter than the gray around it, but not by much.

(5,231 posts)I love those (and I've known a few) who had distinctive color patterns with the blonde/white/silver streak.
And sigh, yes, re: the strawberry blonde of your s-i-l; I truly miss the color myself. It's a very unusual color, and you can't match it out of a bottle, no matter how hard you try. On the plus side, you age into silver gracefully because of the early fade of the reddish strands. You just kinda look silverish blonde for a while.

(65,490 posts)scalp area covered by bald skin rather than hair:
****** Scalp reduction is a surgical treatment to remove parts of the scalp that are affected by alopecia, the purpose being to reduce the overall area of bald skin. The healthier parts of the scalp are then stretched and re-positioned, making the balding area smaller and more manageable. The treatment can be done in isolation but is often used in conjunction with a hair transplant procedure.******
