My local radio station is giving away tix to the Wonder Woman movie "starring Chris Pine."

I'm a guy who has always considered himself to be a "feminist," but until I saw how things played out during the 2016 election, I don't think I ever really "got it."

I've been looking forward to the movie for a long time, both because I'm a full blown nerd and because I want girls like my daughter to understand that a badass superhero doesn't always have to be a guy. Maybe I'm being too sensitive here, but marketing the film this way seems like a mistake.

And just to be clear, I'm a big Chris Pine fan and think the world of him.

They even listed him first in the opening credits. I get what you're saying about marketing the first female superhero film using a male costar, but the whole point of having a marquee name is just that -- having a name to put on the marquee. Execs don't think Gal Gadot has enough star power yet to draw the crowds all by herself.

That actually made me remember that Marlon Brando was the highest paid actor (I think) of the original Superman, even though he had like five minutes of screen time.

It would be one thing if WB marketed the movie that way but a random radio station?

I think they probably just mentioned Pine because he's the bigger star (at least to American audiences).

calls in and straighten the radio station out. Gal Gadot is a wonderful actress and perfect for the role. I hope she gets more credit than this radio station is willing to give her.

More people know who Chris Pine is than who Gal Gadot is, and therefore, when trying to attract theater-goers who might not otherwise be inclined to see the movie, Chris Pine's name is a bigger draw.

Where the radio station is and the market. I am a feminist and I love my Superhero movies. I am glad you are raising your daughter to understand that there are superheroes abd superheroines. This movie is a huge breakthrough. I wasn't too keen on Gal Godot as Wonder Woman at first but I am willing to give her a chance. I think that the studios and radio stations are going to promote based on target markets. And that will vary based on region of the country and demographics. At least Zack Snyder is only producing not directing.

As a big nerd myself, this bothers me to no end. It's freaking "Wonder Woman". The comics community has pushed for a standalone WW movie for years! Market it as such and play up the fact that you're highlighting a powerful female role! Sadly, this isn't the first time I've noticed the way that the marketing for this movie has chosen to take its spotlight off of Gadot's character. Here's another example, our nerd family has an unnatural love of Funko Pop figures. We all collect them and tailor our collections to our interests. I get email notifications from various retailers when new Funkos are released, and the big push for Wonder Woman is an "exclusive" set that includes WW and Pine's character...I realize I'm probably being irrational and overly sensitive here, and will probably lighten up after the movie comes out, but I'm not buying an exclusive set for some unknown character for a movie I haven't seen yet! I want a freaking exclusive of JUST Wonder Woman!!!

Nerd rant over...feel free to bash my irrational reaction, lol!

If it's so important to post such a DU thread, WHY IN THE FUCK DON'T YOU CITE HER?

And none of the responses do either.

Note: I despise Action Jackson films, and especially those which feature comic characters who seem to do physically impossible feats. But if one is going to promote a Wonder Woman film, even a non comic book fan sees that the star above the title should be the actor playing Wonder Woman, not some guy playing another role.

And fuck Chris Pine. He, and JJ Abrams, utterly ruined Star Trek.

I have no intention of seeing Wonder Woman, but if you are going to make a film about a female super hero, at least have the decency to put the actor playing the lead role at the top of the credits, and all the rest below the title.

But I'll stand by my post. The fact that she has an unusual name underlines my argument that her role should be cited above the title. Chris Pine should be at the very end of the acting credits, cited as "Special Guest: Chris Pine". BTW, not impressed by his acting.

Hollywood sucks these days.

They mentioned Chris Pine.

Were I im charge, I would have had the Ed read "starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine" that way you can acknowledge the lead and also the "name" star.

As long as she was above the title and he was below.

I'd also pay her twice what I paid Pine.

The movie's named "Wonder Woman" not "Chris Pine's Next Starring Horrible Cinema."

As long as they have a plot to go with. Therefore I am typically not a fan of superhero movies because the plot is about equal to a wet Kleenex.

I drew Short Straw to take a group of Young uns to see the Batman vs. Superman movie where she was revealed as Wonder Woman. Even the little Fanboys and fangirls agreed she was far and away the star of the show and the Woman was the only real "man" in the movie.

I am looking forward to her own movie coming out as Ms Gadot seems to be taking the role seriously and wants to have the character as she was back in the forties; a strong woman hero who can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with any of her male counterparts. Hopefully the writing and directing has the same vision, if so they could have an excellent movie on their hands.

He was prominent in my favorite Harry Potter film, "The Prisoner of Azkaban". His characterization of Remis Lupin was on target. It was the best of all of the Potter films, IMHO.

That's a real twist. I really thought that being female for that role was a bona fide occupational qualification.

I wonder how the costume fitting will go?
