Wowza indeed!

Periodically I check this site to see if any of my old relatives that have passed away are on this list. I'd found something before and was able to claim it.

Today was my lucky day it seems!

I found my late uncle on here and a life insurance policy that was never claimed!

I got myself to a notary public and have submitted the documents required (I had everything I needed in one place having gone through this before luckily).

You might wish to check the unclaimed property site for your state to see if there is anything there.

It will take up to six months to collect the money from my late uncle but wow, it could not have come to me at a better time!

2. I got almost $300 from unclaimed property in Florida.

It was from a premium I overpaid over ten years ago. I didn't know how it was going to go but the state simply sent me a check last year. I didn't have to go to a notary or anything.

Florida calls it a treasure hunt and local news stations regularly promote it.

3. I got about $5k several years back

A work friend found my name and let me know which state. I submitted the paperwork, proved my identity and in a few weeks had a check.

I have no idea why I was due the money and no explanation was provided . . .. nor did I ask lest I find out it was intended for someone else.

4. Thanks for the info. Good luck with the process. We've been waiting almost 4 years

since she passed. There are only three of us heirs, and we all signed off on the agreement with the state to allow an officer to act as our agent.

We agreed to store some of her things so we could donate them to an arts organization here that she would like, but did so understanding it would be for the six months or so to settle her account. Now with so many years passed, we're worried that the whole sum is being consumed by storage fees and we can't get anywhere with anybody there, are just told these things take time.

It is infuriating and upsetting.

I did this in my normal two resident states and found nothing...but I checked Florida where I lived for a couple years and a claim came up with my name, middle initial and a very familiar address in a city I lived in! I don't recall the exact street address but it sounds right. It's only $55, but hell yes.

On edit: My mom has "under $100" in unclaimed wages (can't claim it since I have no documentation of her living there) and found about $45 for a friend's mom. I am shocked to get so many hits on people I know.

I've found a few on others as well. I think it could be good info. to have but in some cases, better to let sleeping dogs lie so to speak!

This find is bringing to me a tidy sum which is greatly needed, even if it does take up to six months to receive, I can wait. I find this to be very odd as I'd figured this was done and gone years ago.

6. It is also worth checking to see if you are due anything in your own name.

Many people are pleasantly surprised. I used to live in MA and I have collected twice since I moved, with the sums totaling more than $1k.
