11. for normal people, when the cops show up on an assault scene

like a domestic dispute for example, they do not let anybody leave, especially those involved until they have talked to all the potential witnesses on the scene. The fact they just took Gianforte statement and let him leave is highly irregular.
Those fox reporters who saw the assault were at the scene so its not like the cops could not find them and talk to them right then and there. That should have been enough to book Gianforte for assault and send him in jail waiting to be presented in front of a judge.
