friday nite news dump: McCotter (R) Announces He Is Retiring From Congress Immediately

1,563 of the 1,830 signatures he turned in to get his name on the primary ballot were found to be fraudulent.

-----------------------------

After a series of political missteps, Representative Thaddeus McCotter, Republican of Michigan, announced late Friday afternoon that he would retire from Congress immediately rather than at the end of the current term.

Citing a “nightmarish month and a half,” Mr. McCotter released a resignation letter via Facebook, announcing his “twofold” plan to find gainful employment and assist the Michigan attorney general in an investigation of fraudulent signatures on his petitions to qualify for the primary ballot this year.

“Today I have resigned from the office of the United States Representative for Michigan’s 11th Congressional District,” he said in the statement.

He added: “The recent event’s totality of calumnies, indignities and deceits have weighed most heavily upon my family. Thus, acutely aware one cannot rebuild their hearth of home amongst the ruins of their U.S. House office, for the sake of my loved ones I must ‘strike another match, go start anew’ by embracing the promotion back from public servant to sovereign citizen.”

When it comes to rhetoric I prefer to let Sir Winston to speak for me. (On other occasions, I may choose Groucho Marx -- both do in due course.)

on edit: botched it.

he should have just used the "I'm sorry if I might have offended anybody" excuse instead of acting like a twerp.

Oh, he is a twerp too.

It strikes me as odd him resigning via Facebook, I guess he didn't have the nads to call a presser.
