Donald Trump acted like 'a drunk tourist' on Europe trip that led Angela Merkel to proclaim end of US alliance
President took harsher stance against European allies than against leaders of Middle East in Riyadh
Rachael Revesz 6 hours ago

Donald Trump was like a “drunk tourist” on his first trip abroad, which saw awkward handshakes with the French President, shoving the Prime Minister of Montenegro and causing German Chancellor Angela Merkel to declare the end of the US alliance with Europe.

A US State Department official blasted the “arrogance” of the President as he flew from Saudi Arabia and Israel to Europe last week.

“When it comes to diplomacy, President Trump is a drunk tourist,” the unnamed official told The Daily Beast.

“Loud and tacky, shoving his way around the dance floor. He steps on others without realising it. It’s ineffectual.”

She said that she now has less trust in that alliance, which I understand and agree with. She also said that Europe needs to take matters into its own hands, which is a logical consequence.

I (German citizen) am sure that Merkel, like most Germans, is happy to celebrate the Germany/US alliance as soon as we have more trust that the US government actually WANTS that alliance to continue and is in support of it. That is, as soon as Trump is out of office (I hope).

What must the NATO countries think of the people that elected such an obvious fool?

Trump is nothing but a stooge for Vladimir Putin and any other damn dictator in this world like the ruler's of Saudi Arabia and that murderous dictator in the Philippines.

The man is a drooling idiot and a money grubbing con man! A two year old could clearly see this so what does that say to our former(?) European democratic allies?

Forget Trump, it tells Europe that Americans are a bunch of unreliable fools.

Not that I know of.

So then Trump version 2.0 is a distinct possibility should the USA survive the first horrendous version.

America could still be in the grip of the same blind idiots that elected god emperor Dump and forced him on the world.

2018 will tell the tale. If the democratic party does not win big, this country is dead and NATO will truly be on their own.

Sadly

I also find it fascinating that Trump's ardent supporters assumed they knew what he meant when he said 'Make America Great Again'

I don't think he was ever really talking about domestic policy. Presidents can't 'do' much without Congress. It's clear to me he meant make America the world's biggest, bestest, bigly all powerful ruler of the world! And he thinks he can do it by pissing off allies

What a mess

Trump's class war budget makes it clear what his real priorities are eh?

He attacks his own base voters and strips them of their last penny and gives the proceeds to the 1%ers and the military/MIC.

But if it passes Fox news and hate radio will blame their poverty and degradation on Hillary's emails and the scary black man that used to be president years ago and the dying faithful now living under bridges will believe.

and other how other nations no longer respects us. Apparently he never learned that bullies really get no respect. That technique understandably may have more success in business than in diplomacy, I guess...but respect as an individual (as opposed to fear and resentment) entails much more. So now we finally have that "businessman" in the White House that the Republicans always long for: a man with not one single elected experience in any office. I certainly didn't support Mitt Romney, but he was a businessman who at least knew how to behave with the Republican version of "class," along with governing experience. I'm afraid that Trump is only going to get worse, since we can't continue to praise him every time he behaves with the least bit of the normality we expect in the POTUS

November, 2016 will be remembered as the month that the US died as a super power. I have no doubt Trump will be remembered as the worst President in US history. He will be seen at best as incompetent, and at worst, this country's greatest villain in history.

We fought a war in 2016, and most Americans don't even know it. Russia won in an astounding victory. We're on the verge of implosion now. The Democratic Party is virtually destroyed, with its leadership decimated. You realize that it won't only be a Trump victory in 2020 if the Democratic Party doesn't pull its head out of its arse. It'll be a new Republican era of isolationism, disaster Capitalism, cruel Fascism, and economic ruin. Most of the population will die of easily cured diseases as health care becomes a luxury commodity. China will fill the super power void, and NATO will become a joke. Nuclear War will be an ever-looming threat as the world's balance will be thrown out of wack.

We need new leadership. The Democratic Party is a spineless joke. They're a bunch of scared babies trying to appease Trump. No more Clintons, Bernies, Bidens, etc. We need a radical transformation.

I think Dump takes the prize as the worst prez in history. Damn I thought W and or Nixon had that locked up but nooooo!

The damned republicans came up with an even worse anti-American LOSER!

You are so right about a war with the Russians in 2016 that they won. It was a internet/fake news/troll war and they defeated us full stop!

The final killing off of american democracy will be 2018. If the democrats don't win BIG it's all over. America will devolve into a theocratic republican dictatorship and withdraw into our borders.

The science based dictatorship of China will fight it out with Russia to become the dominant force in this century. America will be a Luddite/flat earth dystopia of horror and misery for 99% of its population.

Trump is taking us off the world stage and ceding power to Russia and China right now. I totally agree with your frighting vision of the future.

Just so you know, the Deplorables loved every second of this. Trump acted like a loud American who doesn't give a shit. They love this.

And Merkel's words were also music to their ears. In their minds this is great, the world can worry about itself, the US will no longer be the police man. They have no clue the consequences of what Merkel said, basically she's saying the US is no longer the leader of the Free World and that Europe needs to prepare to defend itself against Russian and eventually US aggression. A world without the US leading it will eventually lead to WWIII.

But the republicans are fine with their president selling out America. Withdrawing us from the world stage so Russia, China and the EU can take over as the dominant cultures in this century.

In exchange for stripping the poor and middle class of their last cent to give to the 1%, Trump and the Republican Party will permanently destroy the USAs place in this world.

And not a thing can be done about it. The republicans are in total control until 2018. Then we will have one last chance to stop this travesty.
