We need to call on Donald Trump to stand with Portland's Mayor Ted Wheeler

and use his office to urge those of the so-called "alt-right" who are planning to hold a "Trump Free Speech Rally" set for June 4th in Portland's Terry Shrunk Plaza to cancel that event out of respect for the victims of Friday's tragedy, their families and friends, the citizens of Portland and those in our nation and around the world who are horrified and still remain traumatized by yet another politically motivated cruel and craven attack on innocents.

“Our city is in mourning, our community’s anger is very real and the timing and subject of these events can only exacerbate what is already a difficult situation,” Wheeler said at the press conference. “I’m appealing to the organizers of the alt-right events to cancel the events that they’ve scheduled. I urge them to ask their supporters to stay away from Portland at this difficult time.”

We must send a clear message to Mr. Trump that a real American president, a legitimate leader, cannot fail to do otherwise.
