General Discussion

Why the heck aren't progressive Democrats doing similar things, with a short list of items we should be focused on?
I sure would focus on climate change, affordable healthcare, drug prices, tax policies, etc.
If Democrats/progressives don't make their policies known to average people, than average people will tend to think the Democrats/progressives don't care about them and their needs.
Any thoughts about this?

(3,040 posts)The progressive caucus does put out press releases and holds press conferences, but the main stream media does not report on it ever. Those that are politically aware would know how to obtain this information. But the average voter is not going to go too far out of their way to find this. So, if the MSM doesn't report on the progressive talking points and press conferences like they do for the GOP, they will never hear it.
Progressives just don't make the media money and most progressive / liberal policies will hurt the profits of the MSM corporate owners. So they rarely -- if ever -- will report on it.

I can't begin to tell you how disappointed I am with the dem 'leadership' and have been for a while.

(1,779 posts)But he gets his messages out loud and clear. Of course it's incoherent and/or total fabrication, but he cuts a large swath.
The Democrat/progressive messaging has been pitiful. Certainly there are wonderful leaders are in our side of the spectrum, but we do not hear their words in the media, do not see them advancing their causes, etc., and clearly we need a dedicated media presence that we can track 24 hours a day making our major points.
I think someone like Thom Hartmann would be wonderful as the lead host on such a platform. Thom said that he was in some negotiations with MSNBC and he asked for full editorial control and they refused to give it to him. We need to have people on the air who are willing to speak truth to the media moguls as well as to the Republicans and billionaires.

(129,062 posts)I get a million emails from the party (at least 2 or more a day) and those associated with the party.
Are you signed up?
There was one yesterday about 8 R seats being targeted and one from Keith Ellison about getting volunteers for kickoff events for "Resistance Summer".
Often Democrats get ridiculed for being too "wonky" with how they deliver info on policies because many of these policies are fairly complex and people are unfortunately not going to read through a dissertation.
IMHO, the policies were put out there this last go around, but voters were voting on emotion and not policy.

(129,062 posts)but a million pieces of "snail mail" - whether from Pelosi or Biden or Perez or Ellison, etc. The envelope is loaded with page after page of "policies" - whether as a bullet point or more detailed. I literally get stuff every single day. I also get it from the DCCC & DSCC and my state (PA Democratic Victory Campaign).
IMHO, the post is a bit disingenuous and as I previously noted, I think the general public knows what the "policies" are. It's a matter instead, of trying to tell a somewhat uniformed (when it comes to "how a bill becomes a law" or "how government works" electorate HOW we plan to enact our policies in an era of hyper-partisan politics, as well as how (and when) it will impact them. And that's because these folks will tell you that "politicians" will tell you anything to get elected, but to quote Clara Peller, "Where's the beef?".

(38,001 posts)I don't get any from BLOTUS & Co.
At least, not anymore. I used to get a lot of it from wingnut types because I once (once) sent my opinion to my GOP congresscritter - whose .gov form wouldn't let me send that opinion without including my email address. After that, I started to receive spam from him and every right-wing organization in the known universe. For a long time I just kicked those emails over to my trash bin. But, after much unsubscribing, I am GOP email-free.
