“Gregg and the Allman Brothers Band were very helpful to me in my 1976 presidential campaign,” Carter said Friday, in a statement to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “Gregg Allman was better known than I was at that time. The band got the campaign political attention and raised much needed funds.”

and this:
Carter, 92, has given Allman great credit for drumming up crucial support that helped put him in the White House. “Gregg Allman was there when I needed him, and Rosalynn and I have always been grateful to him.”

I didn't realize that President Carter is 92.

anticipated. "Nothing prepares you, and nothing compares" -

And Jimmy Carter is one of the greatest spiritual leaders of my lifetime. I adore him, and the Brothers, with everything I got.

A friend sent me two marvelous articles about the Allman Brothers via the Oxford American Magazine. There is some great history here, a lot of it revolving around their early days in Macon...plus you can see just how true, sweet-spirited, and soulful these Brothers were.

Highly recommend, and worth taking a moment to breathe in some Brothers history:

Midnight Rider

Well, I've got to run to keep from hiding

And I'm bound to keep on riding

And I've got one more silver dollar

But I'm not gonna let them catch me, no

Not gonna let 'em catch the midnight rider
