a small, old pickup that does not identify me as a deserving person, so I figure not displaying affluent worthiness would tend undermine any message I'd want to send. We never purchased a new vehicle even when we could well afford to and aren't about to start paying through the nose in our retirement for the pricey cultural symbols that identify worthiness to this ultraconservative tribe.

We do pay a little extra for environmental plates (yes, they are available in Georgia), and we started flying an American flag on our home now that the hard right has mostly abandoned it and we're not mistaken for them.

ABE was a 15-16 year old beater Lincoln Town Car (get it? ABE? Lincoln?) that I used for an 'airport car'.
Most airline pilots had an airport car.
It was usually a beater that was comfortable, ran well, but was old and looked not too cared for.
Much less chance of it being stolen (from JFK or Logan) while you were on a trip.

I've also had 'Bama 1'.
This was my last plate in NH before I returned to my home state of Alabama.
Would you believe that someone in NH already had 'BAMA'?
I also attended the U. of Alabama. Roll Tide!
I've had TWA (Trans World Airlines).
NCA (Nippon Cargo Airlines).

Now I'm just a number like most folks.

I would probably mispell it.

Besides, not particularly worth it in Florida since we have plates only on the rear. Half a loaf. I'm a value guy.

I would like to get one if it was not so much money. I want one that says TOASTER for my 2006 Scion Xb that has a color called "burnt penny" and if it is not in shining sun and not showing its changing colors it looks about the color of toast and is the shape of a toaster. I would like to get a sign for the back window that says, "You have just been passed by a toaster."

My '92 Explorer got a custom plate to match the tattoo i got that year (a reproduction of a painting by comic artist James O'Barr).
My plate read: "THE CROW"

Later, after i started playing ice hockey (in '94), i put my team name on my minivan/equipment-hauler:
"PHANTOMS"

One is for the Florida Everglades and I forget what the other one is. My husband changed it the last time the tag was up for renewal. In Florida, part of the extra cost for the plates goes to the cause it supports.

But we don't pay for vanity plates.

Here is the Everglades River of Grass plate:

The other one might be the Florida panther plate:

Since we're going to buy a third car soon, I think we will get the "Trees are Cool" tag for it:

Or maybe "Save Wild Florida"
