Does anyone remember this? Do kids still read it? We read it in the 4th or 5th grade. It was written shortly after WWII, about a Polish immigrant girl who was bullied mercilessly in her small-town classroom. One girl knew the bullying was wrong but kept quiet and later deeply regretted that she had not stood up for Wanda. The book may be a little dated in some ways but the message is timeless and would be extremely relevant today.

It's on the fourth-grade reading list at the school I just retired from (inland Southern California.)

Would that be a good gift for Toy Drives at Christmas? Or just rub it in to less fortunate kids?
