(51,129 posts)Rogers will testify Wednesday before the Senate Intelligence Committee, which is currently investigating whether President Donald Trumps campaign colluded with Russian officials to sway the results of the 2016 election.
We now know for certain that Vladimir Putin waged political warfare against Americas democracy with the election last year, said Mother Jones magazines David Corn. While thats going on, Donald Trump is saying, No, its not happening. Its like a guy in front of a bank robbery saying, Nothing is going on here. He was helping.
He made it easier for Putin to pull this off, Corn said. That in itself should be a big scandal.
While a lot of people have focused on James Comey and thats obviously a huge anchor in this, Clemons said at the end of the segment, watch the Senate Intelligence Committee hearings on Wednesday. National Security Agency Director Mike Rogers may have a bomb to drop in this, as well as Dan Coates. I have been tipped off that Mike Rogers has a story to tell as well that goes right along the lines that our friend David Corn has shared.

(33,167 posts)My expectations are fairly moderate based on a couple of observations:
1) He will not go quietly.
2) Things won't improve significantly with him gone and The All New Inquisition in place starring Mike "Milquetoast" Pence in the driver's seat.
Two words come to mind, Scorched Earth.
Yeah, I hope I'm wrong. But, I've been way too correct lately.

(111,278 posts)Likely the public testimony will confirm only a few things here and there that have already been on the net, like Comey was asked to drop the investigation. That's enough to hang CheetoDonny as soon as the Republicans stop coddling him.
Any fireworks are likeliest to occur during the closed door testimony. We'll only hear about any of that stuff through anonymous leaks from dodgy sources.

(3,473 posts)And for it to become crystal clear that they really don't care about Obstruction of Justice or the "Rule of Law" and that the Impeachment of Bill Clinton was just political hackery.

(888 posts)When wastewater became the Rose law firm became travel gate became runway haircut became Gennifer Flowers became Paula Jones became Linda Tripp and Monica Lewinsky became a sexual act became an impeachment while the prosecutor (Newt Gingrich) was doing the exact same thing with his mistress.
Republicans, can hold their heads up high, they are the moral party, along with Bob Packwood and the babysitter, along with Dennis Hassett with the high school child, along with Reverend Haggard and his gay lover, on and on. Mark Foley on.
At least they backed off their Bible thumping

(3,473 posts)that concerned them. When they don't care about the Rule of Law now, it will finally show them for what they are.

Comey will mealy-mouth a bit in a manner that can be used by either side, but mainly he'll be a big waste of time.

One third of Republicans are beginning to question.
One third of Republicans are never Trumpers
one third rabid supporters.
It's that second one, people of Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio, that will start coming apart.
It'll take about a month

(9,708 posts)Comey and what he has to say. I think it will be important and in his own Irish Catholic guilty mindset, he feels the need to at least, sort of, make up for the Hillary mess, which he was responsible for.

(5,810 posts)The week that all of the truth about tRump comes tumbling out for all to see. And by ALL, I mean every last tRump voter. The rest of us have a pretty good idea (even if not all the sordid details) what was done to us last year.
But I won't hold my breath that it will be everything we deserve to know and expect to be revealed. tRump won't disappoint us with outrageous actions this week to distract and divert attention away from Comey's testimony. I think he gets it that trying to thwart his testimony will not serve him well, but it won't be enough to make him keep his thoughts to himself. Prepare yourself for a crapload of Tweets and anything else he can arrange to take our eyes off of Comey.

(1,129 posts)IMHO...
Mueller recognizes the urgency of the situation...
And knows the country cannot afford to wait for him to complete every aspect of the investigations currently under his purview....
So, this line-up of testimony will be designed to provide sufficient basis to move forward with the impeachment process...
and sufficient encouragement for those KGOP who are not completely compromised to put country before party.....
Some testimony will be shockingly new to those who are not well versed in current events...
For most DU members it will be confirmation of that which has been known for some time.....
Meanwhile, Mueller can continue tying up all of the loose ends and connecting the dots, so to speak.

(3,245 posts)I can't see Comey delving into areas where Mueller has indicated that it may be part of his investigation and as such he cannot answer.
The Republicans for the most part will go the "unmasking route" and why didn't he go after Susan Rice for unmasking americans caught on FISA warrants.
The Democrats will try and get Comey to say that Trump demanded he stop the investigation or be fired. Comey may testify that it was his impression but won't offer any proof other than his file memo's.

(1,537 posts)I don't believe anybody in the FBI wants to remove Trump, because it would be considered disruptive/destabilizing.
GOP voters sure as hell don't want to remove him. He's got a 80% approval rating among Republicans.
In Congress, Trump is their chance to fulfill their legislative dreams: tax cuts, deregulation, slashing the social safety net, etc. They don't want to remove him.
I think an independent commission will be about as useful as the 9/11 commission, or the Warren Commission (not very enlightening, more like a CYA effort). It will take a long time, and it's findings will be mostly inconclusive, except possibly with certain associates like Manafort.
I wish I was more optimistic.

(9,670 posts)Like Medusa said above, much of Comey's testimony is probably already well-known to those of us on DU who've been paying attention. For many Americans, though, Comey's testimony may be shocking and unanticipated. I also think he may have a trick or two up his sleeve that will be worth the price of admission. I don't think that Comey intends to split the baby and proffer help for both sides of the aisle. His emphasis will be on the antics of DJT and I believe it will be cathartic for him to spill some of the beans.
On the other hand, the Republicans will be throwing curveballs related to their own quest for the source of the leaks. This is a false spoor meant to deflect, obfuscate and change the focus. It won't work, but it will still require Comey to waste his valuable time responding, and FOX and Breitbart and the Gang will have headline news to report to their minions. I expect that 40% of his testimony will be misused in this manner.
By Thursday night, there should be enough testimony on the table to spur some Republicans to discuss impeachment options privately among themselves, if those discussions have yet to take place (and I'm not so sure about that). Nevertheless, I do not foresee impeachment as viable, regardless of the egregiousness of the crimes. The fact of the matter is, the Russians are running our shop. This isn't for future concern; the future is NOW and we have already ceded our nation to a Repulsican party that took a great deal of its funding from Putin. They will not be swayed by this testimony, or even direct testimony by Trump that he has committed crimes.
In the end, the state courts will spell Mr. Trump's doom. Bring it on. Bring it on.

(51,129 posts)Yes, I agree, Trump used poor judgement. But, he's anything but new at legal matters, he's been sued more than almost everyone in history and knows fully well what he's not supposed to do. His problem is hubris, thinking he is almighty and above the law.

(27,815 posts)I've given up expecting anything to stick to these Teflon dons, and that starts with Reagan, moves through both Bushes, and culminates in this BS.
Awsi Dooger
(14,565 posts)I agree about the Teflon. Even if Comey destroys Trump it will be countered and overwhelmed by lies and mischaracterizations. CNN and MSNBC spend all day ranting and analyzing using normalcy as a guideline. There's no such thing as normalcy in this body slam environment.
What would Trump have to do to be impeached? I'm not sure that proposed shooting on 5th Avenue would be enough.
As long as Trump's approval remains in the high 30s/low 40s we will win the new voter war, which has down the road significance. The genius moderates who can't choose between Hillary and Trump will at least briefly tilt our way. I don't care about the House as much as governorships. Two-thirds of them are decided in midterm years. If we can fortify our gubernatorial rolls it strengthens the bench and mends the party overall.

(27,815 posts)For one thing, a lot of this crap has happened through reduced voter rights and gerrymandering. For that matter, the Secretary of State job for each state is extremely important.

(3,447 posts)Probably something to the effect of 'Can't remember, can't remember, if, if, if, could, might, maybe, possibly, perhaps, anonymous, Top Secret, might have, seemed to, should have, maybe if, and anonymous'. I don't think he has anything concrete/smoking gun on Trump proper. Maybe on some of his circle.
I also notice I haven't heard one word about his 'memo' in about a week. Granted, I don't read a ton of headlines on the topic so I may have just missed it, though. But still, for a while it was all anyone could talk about.

Not only wont we get the bombshell we want, or just little bits of information that
doesnt put Trumpy in a good light.
I think the questions that are asked, will solely be asked to make Trump look good.
