Don't get me wrong, sometimes our actions in this area have been to our detriment.

(58,670 posts)Hell, our problems with Iran can be traced directly back to the 50's, when we overthrew an elected government so we could install a west-friendly gov't that would sell us oil. That led to the revolution in '79 that took down Carter and got Reagan installed.
Our fingerprints are all over most of the more heinous autocracies in Latin America over the last century.
Still, that doesn't absolve the USSR meddling in ours.
