Since the site redesign and new management, the Huffington Post has become an embarrassment, IMO. It used to be pretty bad (mixing political stories with celebrity gossip, recipes, self-help articles) but now it's sunk to the level of tabloid sensationalism with click-bait and rage-bait headlines which often seem to exaggerate the actual content of the story. I used to to monitor the front page just to see what stories they were covering, and how they were framing the issues, but now it's almost too offensive to even do that. They've dumbed it down way too much, and it's even crasser than ever.
It brings me no happiness to say this, because there are very few good political news resources online (not really a fan of Politico either, but it doesn't shock my sensibilities like HuffPost does). If you have a good news resource you can recommend, let me know (I also monitor RawStory, which has similar problems with clickbaiting, plus DailyKos, TalkingPointsMemo, and several others).
Here's the current headlines for top stories on HuffPost (these are not particularly bad, they're just the current ones):
May Bucks Trump: I'm With Khan!
Trump Attacks London Mayor
Putin: Don't Look at Me!
Eyewitnesses Recount Horror of London Bridge Attack
Did You Spot These Differences Between the "Harry Potter" Books and Films?
It's like they've decided that they want to be the New York Post. After Trump said we were pulling out of the Paris climate treaty, the headline was something like "Trump to Planet Earth: Drop Dead". This kind of sensationalism lowers the discourse at a time when we all need to be smarter. But clickbait is profitable, even if it damages the political dialogue.

(1,537 posts)Huffpost has become a combination of TMZ and the NY Post. That's not good.

(18,748 posts)Before they changed it, the visual effect was very intrusive too: BOLD CAPS in red or black. The OOGIEST click-bait sub-headlines.

(4,407 posts)But I have always tried to avoid any publication with too much of a slant, either left or right. WaPo, NYT are staples for me, but you have to get subscriptions. I visit Politico and Slate occasionally and will peruse CNN for headlines to see what is going on now.

(5,505 posts)They purposely use clickbait headlines to try and get Facebook shares, tweets, etc. They're just another profit-centered sensationalist rag with no substance.

(45,003 posts)Now, Huffington Post is lucky if I'm there a couple of times a week.
The tabloid approach from editorial to layout and logo
is cheesy and off-putting. And I refuse to call them by their
hip new Huff Post moniker (so lame). There's no hierarchy
distinguishing feature from advertorial. And the autoplay of
videos is positively annoying. I just can't trust Huffington Post
to not make a racket when I'm around others.
They need a serious re-think.

(1,537 posts)really unflattering photos of Hillary Clinton. And during the general election, they were clearly not for Trump, but during the primary they didn't seem to be "for" either Democratic candidate. There was negative coverage of Clinton AND Sanders.
Those are editorial choices. The problem is with their staff.

(5,528 posts)Their content has shrunk a lot. Despite all of their other issues at least they had a lot of content.
For a news junky, that was important to me. Even if it sucked, there were plenty of other stories to read.

(6,496 posts)I just browse the newspapers online now. I mostly look at New York Times and the Washington Post. There's two local newspapers I look at too. I look at the local papers more than the big national papers though.

(38,436 posts)I would go to Huffington Post almost every day just to get an overall view of national news. When it switched to this new format, it lost me. Now in place of that piece of crap, I go to the front page of CNN. It presents an overview of all news which is really what I want..
....Huff Post had some very interesting stories that I would link to and I enjoyed them. But I will not go there ever. The new format sucks, stinks, is awful and so on. Many here feel the same way.
